Google launches reCAPTCHA v3 that detects bad traffic without user interaction

>> Google today launched an update to its reCAPTCHA technology that the company has been offering since 2007 to fight off bots on the world wide web.

reCAPTCHA v3, as the new version has been branded, is a complete overhaul of the reCAPTCHA technology that we know and... most of the time hate.

Incoming visitors will be assigned "risk scores" based on their source or the action they want to take on a site. Scores will go from 0.1 (bad) to 1 (good). Site admins can decide how their website reacts based on the risk score.

 

The way they can do this is by adding a new "action" tag to the pages or page sections they want to protect. These "action" tags, in correlation with risk scores, will enable Google to take automated actions, when possible, such as requiring the user/bot to go through a phone verification to validate his identity before being allowed on a page or approving an action (such as posting a comment).

 


I'm sure it goes without saying how horrible the google recaptcha was when it went to jest selecting not a bot to selecting never-ending LOW-resolution images that would almost never work the first time and had to refresh the page a couple of times to finally pass the >> select storefront, select the traffic lights/stop signals when it doesn't mention if we should select just the lights or the poles with it, I swear I just wanted to enter the scrambled words instead of the tedious waiting for the images that kept on loading for you to select and pass it.

There is a myth that it doesn't matter actually what boxes you pick, it's that captcha is scanning your interaction based on machine learning that tell if you're a robot or not. 

Anyhow, I can't wait to have to pick the goddamn sign for the 111 time in a row. Also can't wait for this:

The actual reason why that happened to Taran wasn't that he was wrong, all the times. It was because he had VPN on that made it not work.

That happens to me every day and i don't even use VPN, the system is so broken, sometimes it says error try again no matter how correct you are.

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

can confirm it still bugged as hell even if run it with all extensions disabled. sometimes it just don't work.

Same here, I can't count the number of times I've been forced to repeat the same steps 3, 4, 5 or even 6 times!  These Captchas are the most annoying thing ever designed by man (and/or designed by an AI that was designed by man).  In fact, the Chinese military considered using these in place of their water drip torture.

I didn't mind Captcha all that much, but at this point it really got me worried.

I run a rather strict cookie policy and my addons keep most of Google from being able to track me, so whenever I go to a site that uses Captcha (or any of the later iterations) I have to deal with those stupid storefront pictures.  It's annoying, but I'm okay with that.  As long as I have to deal with the effing things, I know Google is having a hard time determining who or what I am.
