Intel to release Gaming graphics card in 2020

Ryan Shrout from PC Perspective has said that Intel will release new descrete graphics cars in 2020 after he got information from Intel CEO Brian Krzanich during a meeting for analysts.

Both AMD and NVIDIA have been investing a lot of money into the mid-range market, this is likely where Intel should start its journey. But is there any space left for a third player in this game?

It's going to be really interesting to so how Intel will fair in this market.
We actually need at least a third maker (maybe a fourth) when it comes to cards for average joe.

Maybe Intel can bring some competition to GPUs, because Radeon sure isn't.

Been a while since Larrabee came and died, this could be interesting if Intel managed to revive it somehow.

Not too sure I care about them bringing a better performing card, But I certainly hope they bring a price war.

EDIT: and maybe drivers that aren't bloated and try to control everything.

Even though Raja was leading RTG, that doesn't mean he can use AMD's IP (and they have A LOT of patents) to make Intel's GPU architecture.

It will probably have meh specs but be optimzed to death or atleast bring new tech to the table. Considering intel wrote their own python for Tensor and it was many times faster on a CPU then GPU

I wonder what sort of tricks they are going to use to sell them to gamers. Since it's Intel, the cards won't be cheap, so that can't be the selling point. Maybe they will do something with their CPUs and motherboards that will produce extra benefit from having an Intel CPU and GPU. 

 

Oh, I know. It will only work with an Optane drive, and to unlock gaming mode you will need to purchase a dongle. And last but not least, you will need a new motherboard every two generations.

I so hope Intel does this justice on this attempt to get into this market. Finally a real 3^rd competitor. This should hopefully get prices back in check and stop all these silly shenanigans like partner programs or proprietary solutions.

I'm actually looking forward to this if i falls through.

As much as i'm not a fan of intel , AMD just doesn't have enough cash to go around. Intel has billions upon billions to spend . Plus , given both intel and nvidia's history of underhanded schemes , i think they complement each other fairly well.

I can imagine veteran companies like powerVR joining in the desktop gpu market. But Intel? They are as likely to make a good desktop gpu as Qualcomm. Actually, Qualcomm itself is ahead of Intel in integrated graphics. Their ardreno gpu is so much more power efficibet and higher performance(GFLOPS) than Intel HD

At certain things. Their mobile chips are indeed more power efficient but GFLOPS aren't everything. Intel's architecture is far more like a traditional desktop GPU. There's a reason why Adreno supports OpenGL ES but not full OpenGL beyond just "That's what Android uses". Until recently their GPUs were also targeting the server space.

But I know for a fact that my Android phone can stream 4kbyoutube videos no problem while my laptop with i5 6200u can't handle it

Which has absolutely nothing to do with the GPU power and has entirely to do with the fact that your phone has a VP9 hardware video decoder and your laptop does not.

RTG has a graphics solution for every single price point except one that rivals the 1080Ti.

 

Extreme budget build: R3 2200G w/ Vega 8 or R5 2400G w/ Vega 11 vs Intel HD Graphics 630 or GT 1030

 

Entry-level gaming: RX 550 vs GT 1030; RX 560 vs GTX 1050 & 1050 Ti

 

Mid-range 1080p: RX 570 & RX 580 vs GTX 1060 3GB & 6GB

 

High-end 1440p and beyond: RX Vega 56 vs GTX 1070 & 1070 Ti; Vega 64 vs GTX 1080

 

 

They are competitive even if they don't exceed Pascal at the very high end. They were far more competitive in their offerings before the cryptocurrency explosion, but prices are slowly returning to MSRP.
