Overwatch introduces Limited Time Pink Mercy skin for Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 100% of proceeds go to BCRF

Blizzard has announced a new skin for a limited time to help battle the fight of Breast Cancer and has said all proceeds will go towards the charity. Charity event ends on May 21nd. The skin itself costs $15.

Blizzard Entertainment will donate 100% the proceeds that it receives from all Pink Mercy skin sales to BCRF, with a guaranteed minimum donation of $250,000 (USD). The total donation amount will be disclosed after the campaign concludes on May 21. Please visit our shop page for more details.

 

Log in to Overwatch any time between May 8 and May 21 and unlock a BCRF-themed player icon!

 

We've also partnered with community artist ONEMEGAWATT to create a series of themed Twitch Drops, including a new player icon and four all-new sprays. Available only during this event, you can earn these special Pink Mercy cosmetics by viewing select streams on Twitch during the two-week promotional period.

Blizzard seem to have gotten the hang of community friendly microtransactions - free as well as paid stuff with only cosmetic differences.

It's nice to see them give it all to charity, as well as have a minimum amount that'll be donated. There's too many companies out there that say they'll donate sales to charity, but it's only a percentage. While all donation is of course welcome, we all know a lot of these big companies can do better.

This is exactly the issue - these products can essentially print money out of thin air yet the company can only afford to pass on 70% of the income.

That's how you can usually tell if it's mostly for tax purposes, or a company actually trying hard to do something for the greater good.

Lower percentage donated, higher chance it's more related to taxes.

For regular skins, probably yes. It's standard practice for the platform (PlayStation, XBOX, Steam, etc) to take a cut.

Blizzard has always been one to cater to its customers.  It's why they're doing well.  Valve has done quite well for the same reason.

See... I can play that game too. It's just as silly when I do it as when you do.

 

Fortnite might be the "big" game out there right now but Overwatch is still quite popular. And it's a totally different type of game anyway.
