Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Operation Figure Out Why the F-150 Isn't Starting (FOWFIS) has been a success. Had issues starting up but jumping the truck seemed to fix those, then it refused to start up at all and after taking the battery to my dad's house so he could check it, turned out the battery was just fine, so it was surgery time:

Shit quality pics because "angery mans in work parking lot during late evening yells at truck and curses Ford engineers (they make some bolts a real pain to get on and off)", but replaced the battery cables:
IMG_1594.thumb.jpg.616883877a1d81798c565f56b31f260b.jpg

And in the process broke my starter solenoid:

IMG_1596.thumb.jpg.ebfb5032b6e6f429a9e24b8b495e944d.jpg

Which turned out to be an excellent move, after replacing that as well the truck starts up instantly. Can't really fault it either, this solenoid has been kicking for about 17 years so I'm pretty sure it did its duty. And now I can pretty much rule out the solenoid and cables as causes if I have problems in the future. ?

An example would be nice. I specifically said car 4 cylinders, I know how Yamaha R1 with cross plane crank sounds but then again it does not come in a car.

Could be worse, had a newer F150 with an intermittent no start, co-worker had replaced the battery and apparently you need to program the battery to the BCM for it to be happy. Can't wait for those to start getting more battery replacements. Not only do you need a 350 dollar AGM battery, but you also need to pay a shop to program it!

W-what? You have to program the batteries now? It makes sense on keys (had the reader die on my mountaineer, getting a new one - $20 part - put in and the key reprogrammed was a good couple hundred bucks) I guess but batteries seems... odd.

AGMs are pretty picky with how they are charged. Once they go dead theres really no bringing it back without a special charger. Most cars with them are littered with sensors to detect draw and temperature. They use those inputs + battery age to more efficiently charge the battery to extend its life, theoretically.

The F150 would no start during low ambients after a short heat soak. Needed a jump pack and it would start up fine.
