Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

The Focus ST uses the 2.0, the RS uses the 2.3 :) Add one more to the list!

I actually didnt know this.... Mostly because I'd never consider a 4 cylinder mustang. 6 cylinder is borderline heresy as it is :D

being a 4 cylinder is half of a V8... i think it's actually more appropriate than a 6.. which is completely unrelated :P

but really there's always been a fun mustang and the econobox mustang. i was never so sure about how ford marketed the 2.3L mustang though, it seems they went for "oh no this is a performance car too like the V8". when my friend matt had his 2.3L mustang that thing was pretty fun though (a light front end in a mustang feels GREAT! that was the biggest perk), especially with a tune. at least until it exploded

yeah cause it's huge and heavy and throwing all of it's weight around lol

wasn't exactly a "free revving" engine.. that 4.3. more known for it's torque than anything

V6's seem to do best when smaller than ~4L. 4 cylinders when smaller than ~2.5

Less forgot the ST existed more forgot it wasnt the 2.5 anymore :P

The RS is having issues with it dumping its coolant into the cylinders due to either bad headgaskets or the head/block warping as they cool down at different rates

I saw that while researching fr my friend who asked me RS vs Type R... She lives in Florida so AWD isn't needed, but she's like me; The civic Type R looks too edgy... Head gaskets are a PITA from my very novice mechanic knowledge

head gaskets aren't too bad if you don't have to deal with a timing chain. but you do on those engines.

with a timing belt things seem simpler, at least that's how it was when i changed a HG on a miata.

I still think turbo's are hard on rods...

mostly because at spool up the sudden increase in force applied to the rods is not exactly healthy. with a supercharger it's not a rush of force, it's much more gradual....i much rather superchargers for daily driven cars... but those aren't nearly as efficient either. so trade offs must be made i guess.

if you look at factory supercharged cars they just seem to last longer... plus with the recent tests done by motortrend on the engine masters show... they showed how they managed to push a stock typical V8 chevy small block with cast rods and pistons well over 700hp with a supercharger. i mean nothing will last long like that but i bet with a turbo it would have blown up DURING the show to achieve those numbers.
