Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

yes but i dont have an airbrush, nor the skils to do such a thing with regular spray paint.

Ah you don't need that. A sponge and fine brushes do real wonders with details. It's actually quite amazing what you can do with $10 in tools.

A guy I knew in college got his car featured ride of the week on /r/autos. Over the past 18 months or so, he built a Factory Five 818R. It most recently got a VIN and will be on the road come spring. For those who don't know about the 818, it's a kit car based on a Subaru WRX drivetrain. It's made by the same company that makes the popular Shelby Cobra replica kits.

I'd like the coupe better if it was going to be a car I drove on the street. Probably the way I would go as well. He built the 818R specifically for track use.

the month day year system is absolute bullshit. it's much easier to say january 4th, 2000, rather than 4th of january, 2000. so much easier. day month year is the most retarded system ever.

On that one i'll actually mix both systems.

But other than that the only good thing to come out of the imperial system is the imperial sockets in toolboxes.

Awesome throwaways to hammer onto bolt heads

ok the only time i like metric is with sockets. it's just so easy to know what socket to use, instead of remembering what socket is bigger by 1/16 increments.

agreed. like what the fuck. it's just easier to go miles per gallon OR km per liter. NOT l/100km. like if i take a 20 mile trip that's useless. europe needs to fix that

well to me, even km/l would make much more sense than l/100km.

I get what you mean, but that would get pretty confusing fast. Imagine saying my car will eat 0.87 litres per whatever km. We are so use to litres per 100 km that we can pretty much judge if car has a good fuel consumption on the spot. It's like that with lot of things, habits.

well in america, mpg is really easy to use. like for example a 40mpg car, as explained, gets 40 miles to the gallon, on average. then we can take how much fuel the tank can hold, let's say 16 gallons, and we can then find out the range, in that case, it would be 640 miles. some cars do have range monitors, like our corolla, but if it doesn't, that formula helps real well, and you can determine when you need to fill up, how much you've gone on one tank, etc.
