Have not used casting ever and feel the need to, how many of you actually do?

This is literally the exact reason Google is pulling YouTube support from the Fire Stick, so people just say hey, lets buy a Chrome Cast instead (made by Google). This really isn't consumer friendly.

I doubt either of these companies ever cared about being consumer friendly.

Actually I believe it's because Amazon refused to sell Google stuff on well Amazon and won't give Chromecast access to prime videos/music.

I've tried it a handful of times. It's just a shit experience on every device that can't act as a stand alone unit. Chromecast dongles being the worst, by far.

It's still not as convenient. I have an Android TV and I also have my desktop connected to my tv and a trackpad/keyboard on my phone as well as a wireless keyboard+mouse, and I still almost never use it. It's just such much easier to use the Android TV itself.

10ft UI and a lightweight OS

Windows 10 is light-weighted, sure you might need to tweak a little getting Classic Shell and killing Cortana and all, I do believe it is a better experience overall.

I ran it on a i3 2368m and 2gb of ram perfectly fine for playback stuff on my 1080p tv a few years ago, movies anime all worked fine, also had YouTube and whatever else available, hells I could connect a generic USB controller on it and plays PlayStation 1 games with xPSX, was fun enough in my college times.

Not even remotely as light weight as stripped back Android. That's also quite a bit of work for a basic media player.

Why not just get a cheap but decent laptop and connect it to the TV through HDMI? I never understood the purpose behind stuff like FireTV

Because the Firestick is $50. A cheap laptop is a lot more. Plus the Firestick works great with a simple remote. A Laptop wont have that, its more of a hassle the use a laptop.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Not surprised by this one bit, it wont be long till Google pulls support from any OS/Platform that is not of Google.

I suspect the real reason is that google and amazon are starting to compete with each other more than ever - such as the sales of cheap gadgets designed for data capturing (echo vs home). Google is likely withholding YouTube from amazon hardware to help boost sales of their own streaming sticks. And amazon needs google more than google needs amazon.

But hey, this probably drove amazon to finally release their prime video app for the Apple TV, so I am not complaining. ?

did amazon get hit by an antitrust lawsuit for not having prime music and video on chromcasts

If it was ok for Amazon to deny Amazon Prime to chromecasts, I see no reason why Google should be punished for this. To me, it just seems like they are reciprocating what Amazon did.

You must not understand how laws work... This without a doubt will be put under a microscope.

Laws are pretty silly if they force a company to help other companies by crippling their own business.

I see nothing wrong with this, especially since amazon refuses to sell google products. So why should Google be obligated to offer their services on amazon devices?
