NCIX declares "Supreme Bankruptcy"

D13H4RD

Well, it's a sad day today.

NCIX, of which you will probably remember, has filed for supreme bankruptcy earlier. This was shown on the most recent episode of The WAN Show earlier.

However, NCIX has not really publicly stated on why this is so, but Greg has posted this on the NCIX forums.

Quote

With the amount of inquiries about it, we figured it's time to write a formal post.

As many of you have noticed, NCIX is currently going through a restructuring to give us more flexibility to compete in the online market. This has lead to some store closures and refocusing our resources for online sales, as well as prioritizing our more high traffic locations.

While the restructuring continues, some shipping delays may occur, but we are working hard to ship out all orders as soon as possible. I will be here in the forums to help you as best I can, but if you have any questions or concerns about your orders please contact our Customer Care team for assistance.

Is NCIX dead? Seems like until we get word that it will live on somewhat, seems like it is.

I hope it can live on. Maybe make a good turnaround. I've never shopped there, but from what I can tell, it's basically Canadian Micro Center, yes? I can't imagine Micro Center filing for bankruptcy, I get 99% of all my tech stuff there

Looks like they just closed the brick and mortar while they restructure.  They'll stay open online for business.

NCIX Tech Tips you mean? Or did they have a legitimate channel of their own?

Yeah, anyone who followed it saw this coming months ago, they started to make fewer videos, then got rid of a bunch of people then eventually stopped all together.  It was a sign something was up for sure.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

They still posted videos a couple times a week until a couple months ago.

They still did videos, but it was limited.  As for the stores, they've also been struggling.  The direction they went in, businesswise, for the stores just has too much competition.  And they aren't as huge even online in sales.  They are only doing a reorganization bankruptcy, currently.  So they are still going to survive....for now.  However, if they can't get their act together, they'll be revisiting bankruptcy for a sell off in the next 2 or 3 years.

Honestly, I think NCIX has to do some fundamental restructuring.

Not just the system on sales but also how employees and management interact with each other.

Unfortunately news like this makes it more difficult for companies to survive as consumers loose faith that they will be around to honour orders, services and products.

NCIX physical retail store doesn't make sense.. minimum wage and taxes are high in Canada, not to mention the extra expenses in operating a store. This prevents them from having competitive pricing against Newegg and other online retailers. Canada Computers, faces the same problem. NCIX should have focuses its energy and resources, in not opening more retail stores like they did a few years ago, but instead updating their website to this century (it is all front end work, the back end system doesn't need to change beside search system, so get a small team togther, and have them work on that). Physical retail stores are dying unless they focus on specialized services. This is worsen by the fact that the target market is the one that, in majority, prefers online experience, over physical one (not to mention all the inconveniences associated with them from a consumer perspective).

3-4 years ago was thinking to buy some stuff from NCIX online store and i dont even live in canada "no good local shops here anyway so i buy online", so i went to their website and after i saw how bad it looked, i had to check if thats a legit NCIX website or just some fake 1, then decided not to buy from it just because how bad it is.

The sad part about this really is the YouTube Channel.

Honestly NCIX Tech Tips was superior to Linus Tech Tips for a while.

Ever since LTT "evolved" to the super high quality standards, but lowered their information value down to "it depends!" and "we are not gonna step on anyones toes, even if it is Satan itself!". On .Every. Single. Video.

Pretty to watch, but also useless 9/10 times.

It was such a plesure to get daily actual information from NCIX and i really, really miss Netlinked daily. It was just a short daily burst of real tech informations, presented in a funny way. When it went away i realized how lacking LTT became in comparison in the past year or two.

So i am sad,...like really sad. Even tho i don't live near any NCIX Store and never considered buying from that horrible web page.

Part of that restructure should include selling NCIX techtips and some of that talent to LMG, at the very least get them on the floatplane club.
