Personally i think the Pro Carbon looks good. But the Crosshair Extreme (this time with two phases for memory!!!) should be fucking EPIC (not epyc).... Hopefully this will help some ryzen CPUs get that magical little extra juice, maybe enough to get 4000 MHz memory run stable on XMP/AMP/DOHC

Not much changed in practice. Memory VRM is exactly the same as on the Hero. VCore is still doubled 4+2, now with IR instead of TI mosfets. Identical audio implementation. More fan headers, addressable RGB, wifi, another M.2 slot. That's about it.

Still an improvement.

Asus usually has convoluted product stacks anyway, nice to see them back at their old ways with 6 billion ROG ATX boards covering a $100 price difference.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

i really hope it supports proper ECC, Ryzen is compatible with ECC RAM so it would be pretty cool to see some boards with it

Ryzen is the ideal platform for cheap but powerful home servers... If there were actually good boards with proper ECC support.

Throwing more phases at the ram doesn't really help that much. Putting 2 ram slots on the board would make a bigger difference.

eh, with Ryzens shitty IMC it does A LOT...

Gigabyte AM4 boards are trash with memory speed, because it only have ONE phase, while most others use two phases. Thus delivers cleaner, more stable power. Which is required when you have a atrociously bad IMC

It could be that at the start of board development 5.0 was not a viable option. (not enough controllers on the market or to costly) is it really a big deal?

probably price spiked atm. also only a tiny tiny tiny amount of stuff support it. Also, AFAIK, only BGA chips out there, not standalone cards. So more expensive to add to mobo then glue on a broadcomm or intel card.

 

Mind you, console controllers DO use 4.2, but with custom protocols (which is why PS4 controllers doesnt work natively with windows or linux and why XBOX controllers doesnt work natively with Linux)

That'd be my guess as well and considering I have no bluetooth functionality at the moment (though I do want it I just have no immediate need for it) it isn't really.

Well considering intel it's still the dominant platform perhaps we'll see 5.0 on some of the Z370 boards soon(ish). Not that I blame manufacturers since I do understand that AMD crapped the bed for half a decade almost but it is slightly frustrating than the motherboard support, while decent, just doesn't has as many options at this time.

That's incorrect. Consoles use completely standard protocols if they use BlueTooth.

The PS4 controller doesn't work natively with Windows because, as a DirectInput controller, it requires an XInput wrapper or a piece of software to bind the buttons, sticks, and triggers. It works natively on OS X and any Linux distro that has fairly recent generic drivers.

The Xbox controller, on  the other hand, only does XInput, of which there is no official driver stack outside of Windows.

If either used custo protocol, they wouldn't be recognized by other OSes.

they use a custom protocol in regards to the adress spaces. Bluetooth is just a description of the method of communication and the bandwidth it runs over. Protocol can be modded however you want, it just wont work with other devices.

 

Why did sony do this? because it allows them to lock people into their proprietary ecosystem and barrs third party controllers from entering their platform.

Now only if there were some naco/pico-itx mobos for am4. Then I would have a greater chance with a Raven Ridge based retro gamecube PC (Running Dolphin of course) in a year or so.
