Can't answer; there's no $0 option for RGB lighting

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Then don't answer that one, or chose the cheaper one if you have to answer all of them.

I refuse to vote. My personal sweet spot for CPUs isn't there. Same for RGB lighting, mouse, keyboard, mainboard, cooling system.

It should have a 0$ option for the stuff that you do not need to actually build a PC, for instance LED Lighting is that for real? would rather put that 20$ on a WiFi card.

This question is impossible to answer to be honest, because it depends on the person's use case.

I second this. Also depends on the person's budget, their definition of sweet spot will vary as well

To be serious though, I think it's difficult or even impossible to vote foe the following reason: it's complicated and depends on lots of things

To begin with, there are three types of items:

  • Subjective items that are purely visual, like LED lighting
  • Semi-subjective items that are visual/personal preference, but also include an element of "performance", like a mouse (sensor quality), case (room to fit stuff, etc.)
  • Objective items that are (almost) purely performance-based, like CPU, GPU, HDD

There really is no "sweet spot" for anything other than an objective item since by definition you're buying it on a "feeling", not because of the raw numbers.

And as for those, it can break down farther:

  • Do you consider performance per dollar based on the component alone, or per dollar of the whole build?
  • What is your use case?  Rarely if ever does a component stack up against competition identically in every test

You've got the right idea that these are important things that one needs to answer when building a rig, and it would be interesting to see what most people spend on different things, but what they're spending isn't necessarily the "sweet spot" for that item.

Pyo.

Remember the only processors that matter come from the holy grail of PC gaming that is AMD.

Only a literal Nazi would consider an Intel processor in this day and age. Hence the $300 cap xD

Led Lightning sweetspot: 0$.

Also the sweetspot for keyboards imo is 100 - 120$, if not even more.

    PC:

  • Ryzen 3 3100X @4.4GHz 1.275V
  • 16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport LT with Micron B-Die @3400 CL18-19-17-32 1.35V (I could fine tune it better but I am too lazy)
  • Fortis 3 HE1425 with a top plate painted by me
  • Be Quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 Rev 2
  • Corsair MP600 1TB for Linux (main)
  • Toshiba Q Series Pro 256GB for windows
  • Asus X570 TUF Gaming Plus
  • Be Quiet! Straight Power 11 750W

    Peripherials:

  • IBM Model F AT
  • Logitech G603 which I currently broke (I need some super glue to fix it, lol) so I am using G402 as a cheapo replacement
  • Worn out Steelseries QCK+
  • Sennheiser HD600 for music
  • AKG K712 for gaming
  • Sony DHC-MD373
  • 2x Samsung Syncmaster 2243 + NEC EA244WMi

The sweet spot on stuff like GPUs changes over time. And I would never say that the sweet spot is a spesific price, I would rather say that it's a spesific model (changes from generation to generation)

Also, "sweet spot" for led light is 0. It doesn't affect performance at all. It's only a thing you add on top if you want, therefore doesn't have a sweet spot.

And for keyboard, whatever is the cheapest cherry MX keyboard.

New or used? :D. I only deal with used. Just bought a MSI GTX 980 Ti SeaHawk for £280 and an Asus ROG Strix Gaming 1080 for £390. That's not my sweet spot as I am a PC builder and need to make something on top.

For ex: for the 980 ti the sweet spot would be £250 and for 1080 would be £350.

So depends to whom you rapport.

CPU: Ryzen 7 2700x, Cooling: Corsair H100i Platinum AIO MOBO: Asus Strix B450 F GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1080 Founders Edition + Arctic Accelero Xtreme III RAM: 2x8GB ThermalTake ToughRAM White 3200MHz PSU: Corsair RM850x White Storage: 250GB Samsung 970 Evo NVMe CASE: Corsair 275r Airflow White OTHER: White and Orange Cable Extensions ---- MONITOR: Samsung LC32JG5 32" WQHD 1440p VA 144Hz

I personally always pay extra for top quality parts whenever I can, within reason, so my opinion on this is of limited value tbh.

One exception being my 1700. I was planning on getting a 1800X but I got a deal I couldn't ignore.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

I answered based what I believe the sweet spot price would be for an average consumer in the US, not for my own personal feelings (for example I would have chosen $100 sweet spot for a case since I'm such a case nerd, but for most people $75 is good)

CPU would need to be multi-choice. I would pick both $200 and $300 because it depends on use case. Keyboard... wouldn't pay more than $60 for non-mech but easy $90-115 for mech. There's also PSU which has way too low numbers. In here good PSU costs $120+. With thats being also sweetspot if there's good one at sale. And then there's cooling system and case fan. In optimal situation, case fans come with case. But more problematic is cooling system. What does that even mean? By definition it would include everything that makes PC cool.
