Posted August 8, 2017 maybe if they can use infinity fabric to make it act like a single gpu but multi gpu is dead or close to it. Nobody wants to code for it and the games that do support multi gpu are few and far between. I see people saying "DX12 will save the day" it won't. Someone still has to spend time to implement it and that costs time and money. Since the user base with multi gpu set ups are so low game companies will rarely implement it. I don't know how long a lot of you have been into this hobby, but I first got back into it as a teenager when SLI was first revived again from NVidia for the Geforce 6800 series cards in 2004. Then, ATI followed suit a generation later with Crossfire. I have seen, year after year, the promise of "better support" by both companies. It's now 2017, 13 years later, and support still has not been perfected. Especially back then, when support was spotty, and for a period, the next generation of GPUs typically were faster than the previous two in SLI/Crossfire. To us, it isn't worth it. Your money is better served going to a high powered single GPU, unless you need the extra horsepower for non-gaming workloads. That is, of course, unless the specific games you want to play have AMAZING support for it. DX12 is pushing multi-gpu in the right direction, both making it easier for developers since it is baked into the API, as well as for us as we aren't locked to having to buy the same GPU, but support isn't there yet either. TL;DR, save yourself the headache and go single GPU cards. At 1000$ the 980Ti/Titan X (Maxwell) was still better value due to heat/power draw/frame timing, but at 550$ you would be a complete moron not to buy it, it's a BEAST at that price. 5% faster then most Titan X's at the time, 17% faster then stock 980Ti... for 150-200$ less then the 980Tis market price at the time. No brainer. However the 295x2 has an achillies heel, you need a 230-350$ (at the time) PSU to power it. Silverstone and Seasonic hadnt released their 180$ 700+w Titanium PSUs at that point, so unless you wanted to risk your beast card on a PSU which usually is locked to 20 amps per connector (Despite the ATX spec removing the limitation in March 2007, PSU manufacturers still adhere to it out of courtesy). Posted August 9, 2017 bronze, silver, gold, platinum standards dont affect voltage stability, only how many watts is loss from the wall. In the past PSUs couldnt output 12V at their rated wattage, nowadays many PSUs can output 12V at their rated wattage. Card will use 600W if cooling and with sufficient GPU power (4x8pin gives 600W, + 75W from PCIe). add 200W for CPU, board and other 12V meaning you'd need an 800W decent PSU to power this with a ryzen 7. 900W will give more headroom letting you use threadripper and other peripherals too. This card could be a miner's wet dream, lots of GPU power in a small space. Perhaps miners should buy these cards rather than the regular ones.. At 1000$ the 980Ti/Titan X (Maxwell) was still better value due to heat/power draw/frame timing, but at 550$ you would be a complete moron not to buy it, it's a BEAST at that price. 5% faster then most Titan X's at the time, 17% faster then stock 980Ti... for 150-200$ less then the 980Tis market price at the time. No brainer. However the 295x2 has an achillies heel, you need a 230-350$ (at the time) PSU to power it. Silverstone and Seasonic hadnt released their 180$ 700+w Titanium PSUs at that point, so unless you wanted to risk your beast card on a PSU which usually is locked to 20 amps per connector (Despite the ATX spec removing the limitation in March 2007, PSU manufacturers still adhere to it out of courtesy). Again people act like those who seek the most powerful gpu they can get their hands on don't care one bit the power consumption or heat production which I think is true for some but not for all. That may be the case Nvidia marketing wise but from a hardware perspective there is nothing about the Titan Xp or Titan X (Pascal) that makes it a workstation card or anything else other than a gaming card. GP100 actually has a different front end and the Quadro cards that use the GP102 dies and below have more VRAM and ECC support (ish) unlike Titan cards, Quadro cards also have different firmware. Pascal based Titan cards also do not use a fork of the Quadro drivers and up until very recently did not support many legacy OpenGL calls that are still widely used in professional applications, without those it cannot be a workstation card. Kepler based Titan cards really were workstation cards, Maxwell Titan cards were slightly watered down but still a workstation card for it's time but Pascal Titan, not until that recent driver update as mentioned.
