Mall In China Introduces 'Husband Storage' Pods For Shopping Wives

I know this isn't exactly big tech news, but I thought it was funny and interesting enough to be worth sharing. A mall in china has introduced glass "pods" meant for the husbands of female shoppers who are tired of being dragged from store to store. Inside the pods are a chair and a computer with a gamepad set up to play 90s arcade games.

Quote

According to The Paper, the Global Harbour mall in Shanghai has erected a number of glass pods for wives to leave any disgruntled husbands that don't want to be dragged around the shops.

Inside each individual pod is a chair, monitor, computer and gamepad, and men can sit and play retro 1990s games. Currently, the service is free, but staff told the newspaper that in future months, users will be able to scan a QR code and pay a small sum for the service using their mobile phones.

That's actually quite cool but because it won't be free in the future i don't think it will be a succes, gaming on your phone on a random seat is free and probably good enough :P

Love that idea, except for the glass aspect. It's like being a fish, put on display. Now make it solid sides, I'm sold!

Though, why the husband can't go and do his own thing is beyond me. Probably a cultural thing, though I never ran into that issue with my gf *shrug*.

...I also may or may not love shopping so I'd be down to accompany the misses. Mind you she refuses to take me into Holt Renfrew anymore...

Doubt it will cost anything, not much difference between this and gamestop having ps4/xbone setup to play. The problem i see is the waiting in line part :P

Or just a basket to drop their bra in... Gurls in a tech store, you're asking for it.

In NZ all shopping malls have a bar or two nearby and a movie cinema with an arcade. Do chinese shopping malls provide no entertainment?

in china, others dictate your fate and actions. So wife wants to go to the mall, you have to follow. Dont forget that crime is widespread in china followed by a lack of consideration for one another (how they drive is a clear proof of this).

Yep.

Certain aspects of shopping trips can be fun, like going out for food & cocktails after, but since the almost complete demise of record stores shopping isn't one of them. Though a bench and a 3DS can perform the function of these pods.

Nah, I don't mind it either. When it's for me that is. However, I was forced to go clothes shopping with a girl once.. So I get to watch her try on the clothes in the booth thingy. SHe was buying new underwear. That was a good day....

Girls can some places. Guys not so much. Or was it because I made her go out bottomless. Can't remember, but yeah, some places girls can.

What if you just go there to play games because you are forever alone? I'm guessing they don't check your status

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)
