I don't even think Microsoft has any plans of making a Surface phone. It's not even a vaporware, it's a unicorn ?.

Not quite. One of the basics of stock market investment is that you only invest in well established companies or else you're into big uncertainty and possibly lose your money when you invest in a small company. Same goes for app developers. Why would they bother to code their apps for Windows Phone when a.) there aren't many users and b.) Microsoft doesn't provide the similar APIs that Apple and Google provides. At one point Windows Phone is slowly getting attention but people got no patience to wait for the essential apps to be ported to Windows Phone while iOS and Android had new features and APIs developers can take advantage and make money on. I agree when Linus said in his HTC One M8 for Windows review "it's a phone for no one".

If the lumia line had ran android I'm sure history would have been different. They were good phones (aside from the arbitrary hardware limitations wp7 imposed on the early models) and nokia's reliability was legendary.

I'm pretty stoked on the new Nokia flagship, every runor points to a well thought out dual camera system. Personally I'm hoping they release a ridiculous phone with a 4 to 6 camera system, but I think that's still a couple of years away. They've already proven they have quick updates, the Nokia 6 is a really solid device...I'm too hopeful for the flagship. Though every runor I've seen points to it being a 5.3" screen which means a no go for me.

I was of that mind until I saw the 5.3" screen size. Now it's wait for next year and see how they compete with other larger screened phones.

The first mistake was refusing to the a smartphone for years, and second one was the Microsoft deal/acquisition which lead to them finally deciding to make smartphones after watching everyone else around them succeed with smartphones, but due to Microsoft, Nokia used the worst mobile OS ever created and most likely that ever will be created, Windows Phone.

What are you talking about? Nokia made smart phones for years. Unless you mean an Android phone. They had to partner with Microsoft or risk disappearing all together. Hindsight is always 20/20. There was no way for them to know Windows Mobile OS would fail.

Nokia to me looks like a generic company that bought the rights to the Nokia name and trademarks and is now milking it for all it's worth. 

Hahaha what? I think it's exactly what it should be. It was more of a throwback/nostalgia device than anything else. I think it's great that they played off all the memes made for that device. The Nokia 6 is a crazy good device for the money.

All my Nokia phones still live. I mean all of them. I would buy a Nokia phone again in a heart beat if the phone still proved to be indestructible.

Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

 

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

ive only ever owned nokia phones, this will just increase the probability of it staying that way

I'm really skeptical that "Zeiss" optics really matter.  This isn't the 1800s where glass and lens production was sketchy, nowadays probably Mr. Wang in his chinese basement can make a perfectly fine lens for a smartphone camera.

Generally, I agree but it is possible to fuck up the lense. Just ask Sony. Everything was blurry in the corners since 2013 with their G-LensTM. Yes, they actually trademarked the ability to blur the clarity out of any photo. They somewhat fixed it on their latest XZ Premium (although it still can't take a low-light photo to safe its life). The lense is important but most lenses today are good enough. The lense can also affect lense flare or halo effects such as on the Google Pixel. Generally I'd say it's the sensor, ISP and software being the limiting factor today.
