AMD Ryzen driver package

NumLock21

AMD has released a driver package for their Ryzen platform. The driver includes

  • AMD 16.50.2601 Graphics Driver
  •  AMD Chipset Drivers
  •  AMD AHCI Driver
  •  AMD USB 3.0 Driver
  •  RAID Drivers
  •  AMD RAIDXpert Utility

http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/am4-chipset-driver.aspx

Now the driver link above was still visible on March 5th 2017, when you click on the link button link that was on this page

As of March 6th 2017, that same button link now takes you to this driver package.

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows 10 - 64

The Ryzen one is released on 3/2/2017 with support for only Win7 and Win10, while the new one is released a day later with support for Win7, 8.1, and 10. On the new one, AMD RaidXpert Utlity is a separate package, so we can assume this one is the same as the old one? But when you combined the total size of newer released package, it's 15MB less than the Ryzen Package.

Ryzen Driver Package: 491MB

Updated driver package: 109MB+367MB = 476MB

if someone was willing to donate, i'd happily test it out to see if there's any differences.

Was Ryzen really missing USB 3.0 driver on launch or is this an updated version?

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

that would have been for W7, as it doesn't support USB3.0 out of the box.

Are you telling me they are releasing the Windows 7 drivers that supposedly weren't going to exist?

i'd say so or W10 doesn't come with a compatible driver for AMD's USB3.0 controller, although i'm just guessing.

Native USB 3.0 has nothing to do with the OS. Native USB 3.0, just means the chipset itself supports USB 3.0, instead of using a 3rd party controller like Asmedia. Win10 has their own USB 3 driver, but it's still better to install the ones from AMD.

Now I'm curious if this changes gaming performance at all...

Not necessarily: there are no release notes claiming to address any of the issues raised during the first round of tests.

Glad to know an i3 performs better than a 329$ 8 core CPU in CPU intensive games.

But please, let's blame "mahh win10 drivers" xD

Clearly?

It's not clear. There's no real evidence to suggest that's true. While I do agree with you and that the scheduler along with optimizations are the most likely reason, you should be a little careful about that word since it's not "clear," just a guess. ;)

I think he means the SMT0 vs SMT1 comparison. It seems there should be no reason not to obtain the SMT0 results even with SMT on in BIOS if properly managed (although my experience with HT tells me sometimes you are simply better off disabling it altogether).

The Windows 10 patches are nothing to laugh at, you could easily be looking at a minimum of a 10% improvment in gaming performance just from patching the scheduler. How people expected something as radically different to what AMD has been producing for the last five years to not have teething problems is quite frankly deranged. Give it three to six months to smooth out. Need I remind you of X99s launch fiascos?

Windows 7 support. :D YUS. I heard so many times that Ryzen would not have it, but I kept my hopes up like a moron anyway, and I was actually rewarded!

I'm gonna wait for a while longer to see what happens with some BIOS updates and whatnot, but I'm so close to buying a 1700. I mean, 300ish$ for 8 cores, 16 threads, decent gaming performance, amazing productivity performance AND Windows 7 support? Well...
