Linus's Disturbing Trend to Clickbait

I think it's quite the opposite, they just hired 3 or 4 people meaning they care more about their viewers than they do about their bank account. If they need to change the thumbnails to make better content then I don't see the problem.

The thing is that they're NOT making better content. Do I really need to remind you that in order to "Breath new life into an old laptop" all you need to do is swap the HDD for an SSD?!?!?

no you need to be cpr certified.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

The problem I have with the thumbnails is that they look like they're for some new Youtube channel that's trying to get views.  Like if I started a Youtube channel - I would do thumbnails like these to get attention and hopefully get views.  This is not what I expect from a tech company that's been doing this for years and has an established audience that likes and respects them

Put another way, if Linus were still affiliated with NCIX, how would they respond to thumbnails like this?  There is such a thing as brand identity.

to be clear they've always been 'click bait', but I think the old way was very classy, good looking thumbs

Yeah, the thumbnail showed something related to the product... I thought the switch had some sort of photobooth app based on the thumbnail..

I saw the thumbnail on my feed today, not realizing it's from LTT and immediately ignored it. These thumbnails are not working for me.

This weird style of thumbnails (and some clickbait) should stay over at CSF.

I thought is was about the second-hand misinformation that is aggressively perpetuated in the hardware section.

Looks like LMG is fully committing to the new Video Titles (and thumbs). He still claims that "they hate it". But admittedly, they must hate not having as much money as possible even more.

Those who don't agree with your position feel equally dismissed.

Also frustrating - the lack of acceptance that complaining about it isn't going to change it.  The dismissal of the reasoning behind the changes. Creation of new threads to complain instead of posting to the existing threads.

I would feel differently if the concerns had not been addressed -- and fighting alongside you to get an answer.  The issue at hand is an answer has been given and you don't like the answer.

It's now a matter of acceptance.  Can't help you there.

How do you feel dismissed? Can you please elaborate on that?

The fact that people are creating duplicate threads is just a symptom of being on a web forum. The mods merge or lock duplicates as they are reported. No different then every 2nd news story having 13 duplicates within 10 minutes in the Tech News forum. If a new "clickbait" or "thumbnail" thread is created, please report the thread as a duplicate to the Mods (using the report button) and be done with it.

The ones of us who do not accept that it won't change, is because we still hope that Linus and others at LMG will see the constructive criticism as what it is: Concerned viewers who are worried about slipping standards. If they decide to stay the course over the long run, people will either accept that, or leave (or both).
