CanardPC is a tech Magazine released bi-monthly. The link only leaks to a tease of the magazine and doesnt give numbers however a photo of the magazine's benchmarks was leaked and you can find it at the bottom.

This engineering sample had a base clock of 3.15 ghz and a boost clock of 3.3 ghz which means that while RyZen lost to the 6900k and other processors, it was doing it with a big boost clock gap

 

My thoughts: Burn! Baby Burn! That is, the price of Intel CPUs because it's good enough at a lower clock to compete relatively well with the 6900k

 

This is highly speculative and unverified but a user on reddit came up with this today. (2016-12-29)

Looks very good. Only thing to notice is that the ZEN sample runs at a lower clockrate than what Lisa Su stated is standard (3.4ghz). So add at least 10% performance + any boost/oc on top of that. Then it looks really great for an 8 core.

Because it's an 8 core CPU, and games benefit a lot more from fewer cores with higher clock rate. This sample also runs at a lower clock rate than standard.

lower base clock than every other processors above it. As explained in the text on the side, Video games rarely support more then 4 core and the higher clock speed is what is important.

Well okay... werent games from today taking advantage of true multi-core based solutions now with DX12 and Vulkan than before? Still, does this mean that the AMD sample in review, is literally as good in IPC as Intel's offerings (on the brute calculus graph) .-.?

It probably averages a bit lower then the 6900k at same core clock but marginally.

no not really. Outside of Ashes of the Singularity and DOOM 2016. The other games are merely DX11 with the GPU benefis of DX12.....

They are with Broadwell. But it seems ZEN is more than capable. Being within 10% per core is just fine. Clockrate, APU's IGPU, internal features, price, etc. is more than enough to be competitive of.

Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

Note how base was 3.15GHz and boost was 3.3GHz...that's 400Mhz slower than the boost of the 6900K's (and 900MHz slower than the boost of a 6700K).

The Ryzen 8 core is only 13% slower (168.7 / 193.4 =0.8722=87%) than the 6900K while the 6900K has a 12% increase of boost clocks...that means that at the same clocks, the Ryzen 8 core should be more or less within margin of error so...I think it's single core performance is high enough :P

True, but if we get a quad core variant that is clocked higher, and priced lower, it will mean a lot. Imagine a quad core Zen, at the same price of your traditional Intel i3. It's plenty enough for gaming, and a real quad core. Shouldn't be too hard to have a 4ghz base quad core SKU.

The thing is though.. This is an 8 core CPU. 

 

Everyone is complaining how this is slower than a 6700k which is a 4 core CPU. (Not counting HT here) so..

 

Now, I am assuming AMD will be offering cut down versions of this chip. If the 4 core version has a higher base clock and boost clock.. wouldnt it perform the same or above the 6700k?

 

That's the difference here people. I like AMD is doing what Intel is doing and providing an enthusiast chips and more cut down mainstream versions of that as well. 

 

So just remember as everyone gets their panties in a bunch that this doesn't beat a 4 core CPU, let me remind you that the 6900k doesn't fair better in games and is slightly worse in certain games. 

 

Want apples to apples? wait for the 4 core version.

Note that is is running at about 400mhz less than the 6900k...
