Any idea how much of an upgrade 4050 mobile is to 3050 mobile for productivity tasks? mainly programming and related task honestly

For programming, unless you're coding up games or doing ML work that uses a graphics card - or you're gaming on the side, a laptop dGPU is a complete waste of money.

You need to put your money into a good CPU and plenty of RAM - that's what you need for programming. You can just use the integrated graphics on the CPU, and you'll be more than fine.

Again, unless you're coding up something like a video game or using CUDA. In that case, a GPU is important, but unfortunately, both of those options are likely insufficient - unless the work is really basic.

What sort of programming? Most of my programming workload can be done off a 2018 i3 iGPU, only rendering and gaming did I require a GPU and for the task the AMD VEGA APU was good enough.

Even a 3050 will be overkill for 90% out there.

What kind of "productivity"?

If you're editing video, the newer generation NVENC in the 4050 might help.

If you're word processing and doing spreadsheets, it won't make a difference either way.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

use online benchmarks. or state apps

programming means nothing

that said either 4/6gb vram are bad for most gpu intesinve applications

and mind that gaming laptops suck. they're not really laptops

they are heavy, loud, battery sucks, and performances suck too unless you're plugged in the outlet

I learnt it in the hard way

No need for this comment the OP didn't ask for your opinion on gaming laptops.
