Microsoft is now paying you to use Edge browser

kcihtred2

As part of the Bing rewards, which has now been rebranded Microsoft rewards you are paid to actively use edge browser by the hour until September 30th (speculation on my part is it will continue)

rewards equal about a penny an hour which are paid out in gift cards such as amazon, starbucks, gamestop, and microsoft services.

http://www.bing.com/explore/rewards-browse-and-earn-intro?FORM=ML140L&OCID=ML140L&wt.mc_id=ML140L&PUBL=RewardsDO&CREA=ML140L

As a person who used bing rewards as a 30 second activity every day and made about $5-10 a month from it (paid for a computer part every few years) this is an interesting move.

One penny an hour? No thanks. I'll stick with Vivaldi(I'm using it again), or Firefox.

Yes, it is part of Microsoft reward program. Basically Edge has Cortana integrated, and that means Bing, so the more you use Edge web browser or Bing, you get a cut back from the money Microsoft makes on you. Imagine if Google gives you a cut for using Android, Chrome and Google search engine.. well they don't, they make more money on you. Basically, it is that.

Sadly, the reward program is only available in the US. Also, isn't that a repost?

Oh yes it is!

I would love to use Edge as it is so much faster on my Atom tablet, definitely will not use Google Chrome, especially after Adblock Plus is available (although so many subscription full problem). Although I cannot stand to use Bing as my main search engine.

Also, the reward is not available in my region.

Now that Edge supports extensions (albeit limited) I've moved over from Chrome to Edge on a lot of my PCs/laptops. Chrome is just horrible these days, on a purely performance standpoint Edge is far superior. Edge is also optimized for video streaming compared to all other browsers (excluding IE, RIP) so if you have a sub-$200 netbook and want to watch 4K content online, Edge is really your only option (I can barely watch a 1080p video fullscreen in Chrome but Edge will playback a 4K video without any buffering or a single dropped frame). Lastly, I no longer need to fight with Twitch to get video to load on a stream with Chrome, with Edge the video loads the first time every time within seconds of opening the stream.

If you're tired of Chrome or other browsers I honestly recommend giving Edge a try before dismissing it as a prettier version of IE (because everybody can agree that IE was horrible).

The deal breaker for me is it requires me to add a Microsoft Live account to my desktop which is really annoying for me from a security standpoint. :(

That would be sweet. I dont really like Chrome that much but on my phone I use it just because there is not really a better option. At least I havent found any yet. I used to have UC Browser when I had Windows Phone as I found it a lot better than IE and it also wasnt so battery heavy as IE but now when I switched to Android I find UC Browser a lot worse compared to Chrome.

And I would love to have Vivaldi on my phone when it adds new features.
