Got this issue after I changed my house and brought my PC to another city. Before travelling i removed GPU from motherboard and took my PC with me. At new house i installed the GPU in motherboard. For 4,5 days i just updated all games and did not play any game. After that when i started playing games, i felt something odd. All the graphics got messed up so i tinkered with literally every settings both in game and in nvcp and nothing helped. Maybe it has something to do with me reinstalling GPU and making my PC go through all that stress(bumps) of the journey. Or maybe it is related to electricity at my new house. Whatever it is its making me very sad as i can't play any games.

Thanks for posting and sharing this. I see it. The flickering, dancing and pixelated textures in the distance and even not that far away. It's as if anisotropic filtering isn't working at all and AA filtering isn't doing much either. 

 

What causes this to happen out of the blue or after moving homes to a new city; I have no idea. It's can't be electricity-related because power is converted, filtered and conditioned before it gets to the actual components and processing chips (CPU & GPU). Bumping and shaking the system I highly doubt would cause anything like this. If something was damaged, it would probably just stop working altogether. 

 

It sucks, but there is still no answer to this that we know of, aside from switch to a Ryzen based system which helped reduce many of these anomalies for at least one other person experiencing this.

Do you think this affects the monitors?

if I put one on my computer thats has this problem and them  put on another computer will the monitor get infected?

I have micron vram in my gpu. Is it affecting micron based gpu or samsung also have it? Also is it affecting custom cards or stock cards by nvidia also?

 

Changed every setting in game and in nvcp, its like some settings don't have any more affect on the game. Also the area of effect is very low for high quality. Sometimes even things close to me flicker like crazy.

AFAIK, it is affecting cards of any kind. AMD, Nvidia, reference and non-reference.

I read through Wikipedia article about mipmapping and it says that lack of mipmapping causes aliasing and moiré pattern.

 

Moiré patterns which are caused by a lack of mipmapping manifest as texture shimmering.

 

Search for mipmap on/off on YouTube. In Minecraft lack of mipmapping shows moiré patterns that we are referring to as shimmering. 

 

Here's a video where the guy explains how disabling mipmaps causes shimmering/flickering.

Honestly the more i look at it, it seems like its a mipmap issue or a combination of the two. even in games at 4x MSAA and 2x SSAA with double my res in Supersampling i still get this horrible pixelation. Its also extremely apparent on foilage and trees. If you look at this video from minecraft my foilage/trees are like the top view with mipmaps off . You will still get some with mipmaps too but not nearly as bad. In X plane texture filtering quality does have some small effect on jagged lines too but nothing in DCS world.

Ive been looking at it again and discovered it has at least for me to do with some transparency AA issue (perhaps in some combination with mipmapping ) thats not being correctly applied.

I have never enabled Transparency AA in my life and have never had any issues with this kind of flickering/shimmer. 

Transparency AA does not seem to work with HDR (i can keep HDR on in 2.5.0 but feels like it forces it off when transparency i set on in control panel im not sure on this) 
Does not work with deferred shading

Enabling 8x SS transparency supersampling in control panel/inspector and my sims looks about what they did before. The severe boiling(shimmer feel is greatly reduced (almost gone) using 4xAA and 8x SS transparency. So the big question is, why? X plane was fine with 2x AA and FXAA. DCS used to be just fine at 2x. What is causing it...

This sadly is only a work around.

Its worth noting that everything i post is in VR but it shouldnt matter as i just see the issues highly magnified. I dont do much gaming outside of that but i do see the effect in other games like dark souls 3

As graphics cards take half of their power from motherboard's PCIE slot and half from psu directly. Is this issue happening to high end mobos that have really good vrms?

Yeah, that is a lower-quality group-regulated unit, so seeing the 12v rail go off-spec like that is not surprising. That can cause performance issues and could even kill your GPU (it's happened to me in the past with a similar PSU, so I highly recommend upgrading your PSU asap), but it will not cause "specific" graphical anomalies.

By lower quality you mean its bronze certified or the lower quality components used inside the psu. Which psu should i buy (EVGA or i noticed that you are using coolermaster)? Also don't you think fluctuations in 12v like that could be a reason for this flickering aa issue that we are facing. I know its a shot in the dark regarding this issue but i really wanna resolve this issue. As you are not facing this flickering issue in games how is your voltage compared to mine under full gpu load?

The efficiency rating (bronze, gold etc.) speaks only of the efficiency the manufacturer "claims" the unit can operate within. I say that because some lower-rated units actually operate at higher efficiencies and some higher-rated units actually operate at lower efficiencies. The efficiency rating does not indicate or speak of the quality of components used in the unit or of how well the unit actually performs in terms of regulation in various scenarios, what protection features they have and how well they work. Some EVGA G3 units have issues with, I believe, the OCP (over-current protection) being set too high, for example. 

 

There are some decent bronze units out there and some pretty bad gold units out there. ;) 

 

That's why it's important to look at reviews from trusted sources like Jonny Guru and a few others to see how good the unit actually is. 

 

The Cooler Master unit I'm using is a few years old now, but is a fairly high-quality unit (cost nearly twice as much as the 650w PSU I had before it that fried 2 graphics cards on me). Depending on where you live and what is available, I would recommend any of the following: 

BeQuiet Straight Power 11 (550w, NOT the 650).

Bitfenix Whisper 550

Corsair TXM or RMx 550

Cooler Master V-series 550

EVGA G2 550

 

What are your system specs, BTW? Any of these 550w units will handle a high-end system no problem. I just want to be sure the above recommendations makes sense for you. ;)

Forgot to answer your other question... 

 

No, I don't believe voltage fluctuation can or will cause very specific graphical anomalies. The GPU only renders what it is instructed to render and in the way it is designed to do so. If there are fluctuations or problems with power delivery to the GPU, that will cause performance issues (lower fps, stuttering, hitching or black-screen) not specific issues with how the scene/image is rendered. I've had first-hand experience with this. The games still looked normal, it just started giving me black screens and lower performance in general. But it never changed the way the GPU renders the image, in-game. 

 

I'm not sure how my voltage is on my system as I've never really tried observing that before.

My pc specs are within 550w. I know my cpu is a bottleneck and i was going to upgrade it but unfortunately i got this issue. So i am not sure if i should upgrade anymore. I hope we resolve this issue soon.

 

i5 7500, gigabyte gaming b8, Asus rog strix Gtx 1070, Corsair Vengeance 2400mhz 2*4gb, Psu VS550, 4 fans, 2 ssd and 2 hdd.

Yeah 550w is plenty for your system. The i5 will bottleneck the 1070 in some games, yes, but not horribly. If you turn up the graphics quality to put more load on the GPU it will take some load off the CPU and give you more consistent and smoother fps. ;)

So i tried a clean install of windows and didn't work. While doing that i noticed something. When i have my graphics card installed on top of that installing chipset drivers made monitor screen go black 7,8 times. Screen going black that many times make me suspicious of chipset.

It's normal for the screen to go black several times while installing new drivers, especially graphics drivers.

In my case, I have a Gtx 1060 3GB, but it shows the same memory in dxdiag (4095MB). Could it be possible that for some reason windows instead of using gpu's current vram using the shared memory that windows allocate?

Got the same problem. Signed up to write here. Read some of these pages and the only sane way this problem can spread is like a virus.

Which spreads over the power lines (for example). It is possible to send data through there (WLAN for example)...

The way the PSU converts, cleans and conditions the power to within very tight tolerances before it reaches any components, this is simply not possible. Any "noise" from the grid power is filtered out.

The VRMs on the motherboard and GPU clean it even more denoising it to incredible levels. For the rest of the thread I plan to collect lots of footage in every game I have in the upcoming months. Then upgrade replacing my CPU to Ryzen 2, motherboard to AM4, and memory. I will test again and once Navi comes out I will retest with a new GPU. Well i tried monitoring the bus usage in msi afterburner and the bus usage is not going above 8% on max load and stay between 1-7% most of the time. In some benchmarks it just stays at either 0% or 1%. Is it normal?
