Same problem, I know you guys have tried formatting and doing a clean reinstall already but have anyone tried getting a brand new hdd or ssd and installing the OS on it? I have tried everything except that, can anyone confirm that that doesn't works?

I did a clean install from HDD to SSD and the issues still persist. Check this video I made of how shadows look in GTA V (Max Settings). It never used to look like that, I also have crazy jaggies, lod issues and texture pops across all games. I have also tried different monitors, issue still here.

Let me now what you think about this. I really think i'm right without wanting to brag.

 

I need more information now, more people who understand this mipmapping process. As I say, i'm not a professional, i'm just a normal gamer, BUT from what i know the mipmapping process is directly linked to anisotropic filtering, this is a process used to improbe the quality of the image. Its linked to LOD BIAS too. That sound 100% logic to me.

 

We need to let people know all this information. There is obligatory a person who understands this better than us.

Check this post which very clearly demonstrates that our problem is lack of mipmapping. This did not get much attention but this is PERFECT.

You can Google mipmap on /off and with mipmap off you will see the exact shimmering that I'm having in all of my games. Now what hardware component is related to this, I do not know but if somebody has any idea about this, please help us. 

 

I read through Wikipedia article about mipmapping and it says that lack of mipmapping causes aliasing and moiré pattern.

 

Moiré patterns which are caused by a lack of mipmapping manifest as texture shimmering.

 

Search for mipmap on/off on YouTube. In Minecraft lack of mipmapping shows moiré patterns that we are referring to as shimmering. 

 

Here's a video where the guy explains how disabling mipmaps causes shimmering/flickering.

It does explain a lot of the problems in AAA games like the Witcher or GTA V where you can see a box around the character but I don’t know if it explains the shimmering. From my understanding and the video it should just get blurry and something like draw distance increases the resolution of it. But in some games crisp in view textures and objects are still shimmering or jagged. It might be a combination of things like AA not working properly and mipmap having a strong value making textures look blurry with weird rendering. It sounds more and more like a setting or something changed which causes a problem with talking to how things are rendered. Because game devs know of all the techniques to maximize performance and also visual quality. I think maybe going to a game studio would be more plausible

This thread perfectly describes the issue that affect us but he is unfortunately closed. All devices are affected(PC, TV, Smartphone...), I have this shit since 3 years (installing a GTX 970) and I found no solution despite the purchase of a new PC and TV. I also installed an inverter but that didn't change anything.

I hope a genius will solve this issue.

Things like phones don't have enough horsepower for AA and Tvs aren't rendering the image unless it is upscaling but that's not the same.

Are everyone still stumped about this problem? I'm still suffering from it, gtx 1080ti i7-7700k btw.

 

Perfect details and AA within about 5-10m distance, shit quality at a further distance, in ALL GAMES. Even Rocket League for christ sake..

 

I need a fix to keep my freaking sanity ???

There is a fix for rocket league only. I understand that this problem affects all games but you can get rid of this shit in rocket league by turning on msaa in game files.

Here's how to do it.

You have a 1080 ti so you can just crank everything up and rocket league will look good. This helped me. Give it a try.

I cant remember when it happened but its a fairly large change that i did not have before. its extremely visible in VR where everything is magnified and a little shaky but can also be observed in normal gaming.

 

Edit: tested 

Main rig. Was fine. almost unplayable in VR tested with Samsung odyssey and Oculus rift to be sure. 

Laptop with windows 10 1803. Same issue. 

 

Tested completely new Ryzen system with windows 10 1803 fresh install. No change, same issue

Ryzen 2700

16gb ram

Asus Amd Vega 64

850 PSU 

 

So far the only common thing is Windows 10 1803 and my electricity. Laptop was however tested on battery only.

IN VR :

 

Im getting so much shimmer/ crawling textures that its driving me nuts. It can to some extent be fixed with AA in some cases but needs 8X +  (even 16x dont give much change) I used to be able to play with FAA to no AA and not really notice. Its also in videos/youtube but seems to depends on the size of the video windows, 

 

Honestly it feels like the image is boiling somehow. 

 

Noticed on facebook looking at a video in a small size vs big size. Small had lots of texture line shimmer while the big had virtually none (it has a little on the top of the building that you can barely see). it cant even do move files correctly. I have that on my laptop too though. 

 

Apart from this shadows are super jagged on all settings. Only way i can get them good is to use a plugin to set the textures to 4k+ in fks X plane.  Foilage shimmer like mofo and shadows pop where they should not be regardless of AA

In DCS World VR sitting and looking at the menu with text etc its crawling all over the place until i lean in to a point and it just stops and becomes clean. I need to be fairly close though.

I literally can't play csgo anymore for example, wayyyy to much crawling textures, low LOD distance and render distance, shimmering etc etc, it's UNPLAYABLE.

And funny thing is enabling all the AF or AA in the WORLD with NVCP or NVP inspector etc all the tricks in the book, and it only looks SLIGHTLY better.

This is at 1080p. 

 

This issue is killing my passion, and that in turn is killing me.

Hey guys, I have the same problem with scintillating pixels on my phone (which I bought less than a month ago, which makes me think it's infected when I plugged in the power / wifi) only in games, otherwise it's perfect.
So I tested it on PUBG with the GFX Tool (a tool to increase settings) and increased the resolution of the game. It has improved considerably, of course it loses performance, but it is better than playing with "shaking / shining."

So I think if there is any way to increase the resolution of the computer the problem can be drastically smoothed. I do not know.

So today i found out that my cpu (i5 7500) power draw is less than the specified TDP i.e. 65W 

 

Power draw in game is around 35W at 100% usage (I took screenshot only when my cpu got to 100%). The thing is i suspect that my gpu power draw keeps up with usage but not the cpu (not sure though as i can't find any program to measure GPU exact power draw just percentage of msi afterburner).

 

I have attached screenshots for in game and also cpu stress test through aida64. During cpu stress test the power consumption goes to 45W. In both scenarios the power draw is less than the cpu specified TDP i.e.65W.

 

I wonder if this power draw has to do anything with this issue of low lod and shimmering, flickering?

Is this normal that such low power going through my cpu?

Also shouldn't power draw stay close to TDP at least within 60ish Watts at 100% usage?

Should i be looking at vrms of my mobo to resolve this issue?

Actual CPU power draw =/= it's rated TDP. You will see many CPUs in a particular family of CPUs with the same TDP rating, but that doesn't mean they will all draw that much power under full load. TDP is the thermal design power envelope those parts are designed to operate within. 

 

CPUs alter their power states, clock speeds and core loads, moment to moment. Thus, getting a proper accurate power draw reading can be difficult. 

 

There is no issue here that I can see. 

 

GPUs on the other hand, will actually draw very close to or more than their rated TPD because they operate differently and they do not have multiple variations within a family of GPUs. Each model has a specific TDP, where as CPUs are often categorized into a TDP range, where only the top model within that range might actually draw the full TDP.

Got this issue after I changed my house and brought my PC to another city. Before travelling i removed GPU from motherboard and took my PC with me. At new house i installed the GPU in motherboard. For 4,5 days i just updated all games and did not play any game. After that when i started playing games, i felt something odd. All the graphics got messed up so i tinkered with literally every settings both in game and in nvcp and nothing helped. Maybe it has something to do with me reinstalling GPU. Or maybe it is related to electricity at my new house. Whatever it is its making me very sad as i can't play any games.
