I mean sure, the thumbnails better now. But in every other way the old video is superior.

I started build my own pc because of those old school build logs that linus did.

 

Like I mean they can do it right now. For example : skylake budget/medium/pro gaming system, 2016 Video editing pc build log , 4k gaming pc 2016 build log etc.

Not those kickstarted crap or whatever they called it, talking about some crap products that never even surfaced on the market..

Teach us how to build PC, and how to build it better.

Well i think it makes sense. LTT is atm more stuff with tech than stuff about tech which is somewhat in line with the philosophy linus has with LMG.

He told us he want to make LTT more like top gear, which is the case now depending how you look at it.

Top gear (the good UK one) started by reviewing cars and always taking about them (old LTT).

In recent years, they did a lot of stuff with cars and less stuff about cars, the reviews made place for entertaining stuff with cars and tbh this is the case now with LTT.

Reviews are still there, only did it make place for just random entertaining stuff with tech.

 

What i have to tell is that even tho i like the idea linus has with LTT, the execution isn't always perfect, but i believe that if we give LMG enough time they will eventually figure out a way to make entertaining stuff with tech while keeping the quality up.

Only the B-roll is better IMO. They now bank a lot on the vlog-style content, the.. just the way they talk now and all the in-jokes. Reviews don't come out often anymore and if they do it feels very meh..

I didnt know if it was just me that was getting super bored of their content or if it was just the content itself.

I stopped watching pretty much every vid for a solid few months at this point. The last thing I watched from them was  the 1080 release video lol

I'll admit the content has gotten a bit stale for me too. I don't know if it is the tech itself or what but I just don't find the more recent videos to hold my attention like they used to. I still watch the WAN show and even enjoy Channel Super Fun but most of the other videos feel forced. I know that LMG needs to make money and product placement/sponsorship is a really big part of that but i feel like it's almost too much at times. I would love to see some new sponsors or sponsor of the month or something different... I'm so tired of Tunnel Space Linda Shave Club.

I disagree with this personally. As much as it is a bore for the listener the quick product placements Linus do are very well handled and provide the reliable revenue stream needed for them to make content. I also like that they use companies like Dollar Shave Club, Linda & tunnel bear which are mostly unaffiliated with the content of there videos, meaning that they dont need to tip toe around issues to please there sponsors. You see that in a lot of smaller/newer tech reviewers that get Intel/AMD/Nvidia/Corsair/Samsung sponsors that there content holds an obvious bias since it is considered somewhat improper to badmouth a sponsors products.

Build logs are boring as fuck, there are only so many times I can listen to Linus tell me how to install a graphics card and power supply, which is the same every time

there are fuck all products currently out for them to review currently, they are doing what they can with what is out etc

I still enjoy the content, if anything, the whole reason I sub to LTT is to watch the adventures of the presenters, the humour and personality are what I watch for - that is the entertaining part to me

 

Honestly I am not sure what else they could be doing better, the content has been lacklustre, but so has every other tech channel

Hmm, fair enough. I guess I just feel like the current sponsors get a lot of air time compared to other, larger sponsors. I guess it is sort of a double edge sword.

You kidding me! I love the just Linus being Linus. The whole extend my wifi, ethernet through his house, moving vlog, personal rig update and so on. My favorite, love them over anything. The reviews at first may seem a little less but going back a month or two later when I actually am thinking of buying something he said, it is packed with info. I would say the opposite, I love this

That's basically what LTT fell into. They went from genuinely interesting content to... well... blatant advertisements. 

And what really pisses me off are both of the Low end GPU rants because they aren't being subjected to what they'd actually be used for: upgrading some shit PC when you are tapping out your budget.

I disagree. Look at MKBHD who manages to still make interesting videos or someone like the Verge. They have few subscribers compared to LTT but every single video is entertaining. Seriously The Verge has got to be my favorite tech channel right now.

Yeah. Like with that new 22 core xeon, they could have made an awesome vid where they pushed its limits. Instead they ran cinema 4d. Which as cool as it was seeing it render that fast, it wasnt very entertaining

Reviews are down a lot because there just hasn't been any kind of crazy innovation in the tech world that can let them do exciting unboxings/reviews. Performance is predictable and it was getting to the point where Linus and Luke didn't even have to run benchmarks to tell you where line up it was going to fall, they could just look at the price and be incredibly accurate. This falls over into build logs - when there is no exciting new tech viewers' interest in build logs drops because then you're just watching the same thing over and over again (when the build log isn't about a crazy case mod or scratch build). Because of this their viewership started to decline a little bit and they were really having to struggle with coming up with production ideas. Where they are now (and have been since late 2014/early 2015) is a sort of transitional period where they are testing out different content formats, starting new series, and finding the new direction to take LMG until something new comes out for hardware. This is also compounded by the move to the new office (that they had no choice in), the expansion of LMG and having 13 (14?) employees now (I've actually lost count recently). When you have been growing steadily and have that many employees, there is lots of pressure on the owner/boss to keep things moving in a new and exciting direction, keep the company growing, and keep the employees employed. 

 

I personally like (most) of the content that LMG has put out in the last couple years. Sure some of the stuff has been on the lower end, but you will notice that those episodes tend to be one-off's because the viewer support just isn't there. You should also note that they have maintained their "one a day" release schedule, despite the run time of their avg video growing from 5-10 minutes (from what I remember) to the LTT videos running an avg 15-20 minutes per episode (I could be very wrong on these avg numbers since I'm not crunching the data and just going off memory, but I'm sure @LinusTech, @Slick, or @nicklmg could set me straight). I find it exciting to watch the company grow and see some of the struggles that goes with owning your own business (especially because I want to eventually own my own computer business).

MKBHD makes a video every now and again, he is not pumping out daily content, and not on diverse tech topics, he mostly just shoots videos about phones, and barely even tests them
 

I love MKBHDs channel, and the look, sound and everything in his videos is great, but he basically just talks about how a phone feels, and does nothing else

LTT do so much, daily, including bench marking, testing, building etc - all of which takes TONS of time

I'm one of those people that, when I get excited about something, I start talking a million miles an hour and can carry a conversation for days on end. I sound kinda like Austin in the Shoddy Cast science videos. If you watch the newest one on Mirrors Edge Catalyst you'll get a pretty good idea of what I sound like sometimes.
