This is bad as Apple has well it didn't really have competition but now it can sit around and release phone that have 8gb of storage and nothing new except the color

The problem is this: Windows 10 Mobile COULD EASILY have every single popular app that people love on iOS or Android.

 

The OS is certainly capable of having those apps. The app developers simply don't bother to make the apps. Which then feeds into the idea that "Windows Mobile has no apps", which causes less people to buy the devices, which means the marketshare doesn't grow, which fuels the original problem of devs not bothering to port their apps.

 

It's a circular problem. Microsoft essentially has to bribe devs to write apps for their platform - not because the platform sucks, or lacks the things that the competitors have, but simply because the platform has a small marketshare.

 

If any new Mobile OS entered the market, they'd have the exact same issue.

Well it is highly customizable in how the tiles look, the size and position of them. That homescreen obviously works for him.

 

You could make one with high contrast, easily readable tiles, that are very large and quick to tell apart if you wanted too.

Once you switch to live tiles based experience, both Android and iOS feel so clunky and rudimentary it is very hard to go back to them, despite all the little things of W10M.

The windows phone environment is so much more fluid and lively than the clunky feel of iOS and Android.

I have been enjoying the experience from WP6/7 on up. Simple, straight forward, easy to use....I could go on.

The live tile thing actually works for the phone (absolutely sucked for the tablet and desktop so shoot whoever thought that up for Windows 8 and 10). The UWP is an outstanding idea that I enjoy using and makes my life easier and fluid going from work to home and in the field. One cannot do this with either Apple or Android.

**As @Ansau pointed out the home screen can be customized to no end.

The "Lack of Apps" argument is so very old and so very overstated :dry: and the same people keep using it over and over. Such rhetoric . As @dalekphalmmade a point of it is not MS that is to blame it is developers choosing not to support the OS. If I could point out myself using the "Lack of Apps" argument, there are plenty of 3rd party apps in the windows phone store just like in the Android and iOS stores but fewer cheap ass apps as IS in the iOS and Android stores. Just because there are fewer first party apps doesn't mean there is nothing there to use, besides name somebody that uses first party apps in the either iOS or Android to begin with instead of the several thousands of 3rd party apps available that people want available to them. Hmm that bubble just popped. (yes sarcasm was intended there for my benefit) 

 

If UWP was to fail for Microsoft I absolutely guarantee that Apple or Google will pick it up a few years down the road and claim they created it themselves.

 

Now I will agree that currently WP10 or WM10 (however you look at it) the OS is tad slow due to it still being under development. No the OS is not an Official release OS as of yet even though with the release of the Lumia 650, 950 and 950XL. The latest fast ring build is much improved with some bugs still to work out (but that is expected from a fast ring build). WP8 is a very fast OS, fluid and quite stable. The camera is of fine quality and with the 950 & 950XL even better (well I concede that the software is holding it back somewhat) but MS is not in any way shape or form backing off on the development of its Phone OS. Just because MS has had to sell off its acquisition because numb-nuts made the purchase of Nokia (which was a good move but timing was way off since MS was not ready to implement its OS full on at the time) does not equate to MS pulling the plug on phones. Nadell (I am not a fan of either) has stated many times MS will not pull away from phone market even with the sale of the Nokia plant. There are definite plans to introduce a Surface Phone to the public next year and this has been verified in various ways now. MS knows it cannot compete with Apple at this time and has admitted to this numerous times in the past. MS has no direct plans to take on Apple in the phone market with Hardware, MS does have plans to attempt strong competition in the software real thus the reason they are releasing Office, keyboard and other apps into the Apple and Android environments/stores. 

 

I suggest that several people need to slow down a bit and get off whatever train they are riding on because there is some awfully under-thought (understatement) comments here about what is going on. Pay attention to the finer details and stop jumping to conclusions that are not there. Just wow. :|

Apple, Google and MS all have their problems and each in turn have made the same stupid moves to the same or different degrees. Defending one over another is just plain stupid and people really need to get of their high horses here. Tearing into MS for how they have such a small market share does nothing to strengthen your position. Need I remind any one that what MS has done, has done openly and what Apple and Google did, did behind a curtain and took court forcing to reveal those deeds. Sheesh.

 

Haters gonna hate but think before you post. I won't point fingers.

As it is some of the biggest complaints about the MS phone market share are due to, in part to a degree, the ignorance of the details of what is in play.

I am not white-knighting or defending MS here but the sheer amount of ignorance floating around, well its thick and needs to thin out, a lot.

It's overstated because it's true. At the end of the day, the consumer doesn't care whose fault it is. They just know that said app like Snapchat or the various Google apps isn't available on that platform, and that is reason enough not to choose it. 

 

Yes, there are probably alternatives, but are they alternatives the user wants? On iOS, I use Overcast for podcasts, Tweetbot for Twitter, Fantastical for calendar and 1password for password management. These are arguably the best in-class apps of their kind for iOS, and not even the best Android apps come near them in terms of polish, design and functionality. I like them because they are, amongst other benefits, also available for the iPad. This means that a feature like Smart Speed for Overcast is equally accessible on both my iPhone and iPad, and I don't have to contend with 2 different apps and 2 differing layouts and interfaces. This is not including the vast array of games available to me. 

 

The main argument for choosing Windows Phone seems to be that it is not as bad as iOS or Android as people are making it out to be. Which is pretty much the point. Save for a few people who might have a legitimate use case for Continuum, what exactly is the point of using a Windows phone again? 

 

On an iPhone, the only apps I don't get are apps which aren't allowed under iOS app store rules, such as launchers, torrent clients or emulators. Else, I can pretty much look forward to most apps being launched on iOS first or simultaneously with Android. I have Office for mobile. If I want a new email or calculator or to-do app, I am spoilt for choice. Even Google sometimes updates their own apps for iOS first over their own Android platform. I have my banking and carrier apps and a whole list of niche apps for my own niche use cases. 

 

Including stock apps, I currently have 110 apps on my iPhone. I am betting that if I were to migrate over to Windows Phone, I would find equivalents for less than half of them, and this is not even considering whether they are worthy replacements or not.
