Not anyone in my house. Dad, maybe. Since he still uses a freaking Athlon XP.

Now my grandma... She would notice. That poor A6-3650 gets a pummeling.

You didn't hear this from me!

I swapped out my i3 4170 for my school's i5 4570 in one off the newer PCs. IT didn't care enough to notice nor should they I think lol

Before that I took 8GB of DDR3 RAM (although that was long before the i5, and it was the only other thing I took)

I put the 8GB in my dad's system and took his 2x8GB kit, he wouldn't even notice if I swapped it with a 2GB kit tbh

I took his 120GB SSD that he didn't even have Windows installed on, nor did he have any files on it

And I swapped out the liquid coolers (since his fit my old R9 290 better), and the GTX 760s that I had. Although I sort of gave him a better 760, as he needed an open air card that I had and I needed the clower card that he had

I'm a criminal

I feel bad just typing this

If I replaced the ssd in their core 2 duo machine, hell yes they'd notice. That's why we put an ssd in there in the first place.

Besides my father is a software engineer, so he would probably notice other changes too eventually (even though what he does on that particular computer isn't very intensive).

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

You criminal!

Well, you should have seen how my Win XP machine ran with 2 gigs of ram!!!

With my family my mom would notice the performance decrease due to the fact that we are both tab hoarders, plus I am the only one with a desktop.  My sister has the identical laptop model as me except her HDD died and my parents put a SSD in it, so she would notice the performance drop.  But I get to go through any old hardware and take what I can that still works before we send to to an ewaste recycle facility

No , they have an i7 + 8gb ram + dedicated gpu . For all they are doing , as long as they had an ssd , they wouldn't notice if they had a pentium , 4gb's of ram and the igpu.

But it's a laptop , so i can't take stuff out.

And i mean heck , my mom couldn't even tell the difference between the 5400rpm drive and an ssd ( which i installed without telling her ; we were speciffically wanting to see if she would notice it ) until we told her

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

Good question!

A while ago they would not have noticed, but recently, they would. I tested it out once. I removed one stick of ram and waited to see if they noticed...they definitely did! xD

My parent's PC? No. My sister's PC? Hell yes. She plays games... So she'd probably notice right away.

I can't. My mother's PC is literally my old laptop, it's already slow enough as it is, and there's nothing in there I could possibly want. (Not to mention the screen failed so it's hooked to the TV via HDMI to get a display..)

My brother's PC is also some old garbage PC and it also has some of my old/spare components in it because his stuff died and he essentially "requisitioned" my old stuff using his "older brother privilege". Let's just say I throttle his network speed to 1/10 of what it should be because of that. He didn't notice AFAIK and it's been months. :|

As for the rest of my family(cousins, aunts, uncles, etc...), I don't know much about their computers, but as far as I know, none of them are PC gamers and quite a few of them just have low end laptops/old pentium 4 computers.

So all in all, I wouldn't replace their components with crappier stuff, it's already crappy enough so there's no advantage for me here.

M8 you're not alone! I dissected my school's Dell PC to swap my i5-2310 for a way faster i5-2500! Except I had to hide behind the common room fridge from the security camera lol

Nope, and doing so is a dick move. You always upgrade their outdated PC (which is what I've been doing since I got my 4790K+GTX 970, and discovered that the next newest computer owned by a family member had a first gen i3 ULV 1.33GHz).
