New Windows 10 Ads... Highlight What Macs Can't Do

DocSwag

Remember those get a mac adds from a decade ago?

Well now their back. Except this time its different.

In recent Windows 10 ads. Microsoft highlights what Macs CAN'T do that Windows 10 PCs can.

Quote

Each ad takes a moment to call out something the Mac doesn't have or can't do. The spots end with the tagline, "Windows 10 PCs do more." It's a small but clear signal that Microsoft is getting more aggressive about advertising Windows 10, straying from the heartwarming tone its launch ads channeled. Microsoft has been hoping that the launch of its new operating system can stem the years-long decline in PC sales. That hasn't happened yet, but it looks like Microsoft will be putting Windows 10 in front of a lot more eyes tonight. So far, the ads have been airing over and over during E!'s coverage of the Oscars' red carpet.

Every single ad highlights one thing macs can't do that Windows 10 PCs can. This seems to be another step in Microsoft's effort to bring back falling PC sales. They hoped Windows 10 would do it, but so far it doesn't seem to have. Microsoft seems to be trying even harder now to get people to get a new Windows 10 PC.

The ads were airing during E!'s coverage of the Oscars. It seems Microsoft was trying to get people watching the Oscars to notice these ads.

These are a few of the ads Microsoft is using.

Microsoft seems to have been trying pretty hard to get people to want Windows 10. However, these efforts seem to be quite fruitless. This is just another one of Microsoft's efforts to get people to want Windows 10.

If you ask me, though, Microsoft seems throwing at a brick wall. Only something truly radical could probably convince people to get Windows 10, and to be honest, Windows 10 was good, but not amazing.

you know what else Win10 PCs can do that Macs don't? Not give you the option to opt-out off of telemetry, general data hoarding and key-logging.

Windows 10 PCs do more.

When will all these companies realize the reason people aren't buying computers isn't because they don't see the ads.  It is because they have no reason too.  Other than games or work programs, no one needs to upgrade their computer anymore.  If your computer is less than 6 or 8 years old, and still runs, it probably still does everything you want it to do.

People don't have a reason to upgrade anymore, after the Mhz wars, there isn't really any regular everyday programs that need more computer than the average person has.  And cheap crap computers will go on the internet just as well as the insane rigs that some of us build.

That felt really cringeworthy.

It's not like they did it in a fun or clever way. They just went on with the commercial like usual and then shoehorned "Macs don't have this!" at the end.

Side note, is it really okay to post ads in the news section?

Have I mention how I hate ads? I don't needs more ads. They are everywhere already, at this point most of the ads are redundant.

Wow, honestly That's one of the most blunt ads I've ever watched. They're pushing Windows 10 so hard, probably because they make more money off from stealing your data than from the OS sales.

Apple needs a commercial that mocks this. Like "My Windows PC steals all my data and sells it for profit"

"Yeah my Mac doesn't do that"

thatd be a bombshell lol

People hated it when Apple did these ads which at least are watchable and kinda funny imo. Why does MS think it will be different this time around. Those ads are cringy as hell.

And the reason computers aren't progressing... is cause of Intel. Since AMD isn't offering any competition CPU improvements over generations are painfully small... Over 5 years (from Sandy to Skylake) CPUs have gone up in performance around 25% while GPUs have around doubled.

I would say the problem is compounded by the fact that most software is still single threaded.  And that most consumer uses don't need more power as is.  Though I would like to see what kind of software and services companies would offer to users if they knew users had a server level system in their home.  I can see home computing turning into a beast system running all the hard computation for a bunch of low power or mobile systems used around the house.  That would be pretty awesome.

I wanna know why having a touchscreen is an advantage. I mean, most Windows-equipped laptops have touchscreens to compensate for the absolutely shit trackpad they want you to forget about (or they don't in which case you'll have a nice screen with a shit trackpad, which is the case for about 99.9% of the laptops with Windows out there). Apple's trackpads are the best in the industry, and there's yet to be a touchscreen that equals and then betters it.

Ye ole' train

I use a Mac Mini daily for stuff like posting here! and each platform if we can call them that, have their own benefits.  None is better then the other, and I certainly would not like to see Apple or Microsoft disappear, competition helps keep things healthy.

PC - NZXT H510 Elite, Ryzen 5600, 16GB DDR3200 2x8GB, EVGA 3070 FTW3 Ultra, Asus VG278HQ 165hz,

Mac - 1.4ghz i5, 4GB DDR3 1600mhz, Intel HD 5000.  x2

Endlessly wishing for a BBQ in space.
