Razer Blade Stealth, an Ultrabook announced at CES 2016

Razer is known for their Gaming Laptops and their Gaming peripherals.

This is the first product that the laptop itself isn't gaming oriented. But, wait! You can. Via Thunderbolt 3, you can connect to "The Core" from Razer and hook it up to an External monitor and game on it.

The 0.52-inch thick, 2.75-pound laptop includes individually backlit keys with RGB LEDs.

The laptop is made primarily of black aluminum, and its 12.5-inch IPS touchscreen comes in both 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 flavors (the 4K version covers 100 percent of the Adobe RGB color gamut too). All models include dual-core Skylake Core i7-6500U CPUs and 8GB of 1866MHz LPDDR3 RAM (sadly not upgradeable to 16GB, either at purchase or afterward). All models apparently use PCI Express SSDs. Additionally, the laptop includes a Thunderbolt 3 port for both data and charging, and this port also supports full 10Gbps USB 3.1 speeds.

Yeah, Dual Core CPUs. :/

And only 8GB of RAM max.

Thunderbolt is important for the accessory that will make the Razer Blade Stealth into a gaming laptop: The Razer Core is a Thunderbolt 3 dock that can fit a full-size dual-slot PCI Express graphics card. In addition to powering the laptop over the Type-C cable when it’s plugged in, this dock includes four USB 3.0 ports and an Ethernet port.

The Core will fit "virtually every popular desktop graphics card from AMD and Nvidia," which should encompass most mainstream cards. The enclosure includes a 500W power supply and Razer says that cards that consume up to 375W of power will fit—this is enough for dual-GPU monsters like Nvidia’s GeForce GTX Titan Z, and cards that require that much power are rare. The company will validate specific GPUs, but anything within the power envelope that can physically fit should work fine.

The company also says that other PC OEMs with Thunderbolt 3 laptops should be able to implement support for the Core if they want. It's not clear what that would entail—Razer says it's a combination of drivers plus BIOS settings—but it would be nice to have a graphics enclosure that could work with laptops other than Razer's. Thunderbolt 3 is becoming surprisingly common in high-end systems as Skylake and USB Type-C spread.

Not bad at all!

I expected much higher pricing but 999$ seems reasonable.

What i don't like though, are the huge ass 1 inch bezels all around. what the fuck? Why can't they finally fix this like in the Dell XPS13?

I know we haven't seen this thing perform yet, but I don't think external GPU's are a good idea unless the laptop has a desktop CPU in it. Seems like a super niche product for the hardcore Razer fans.

And it only has a dual core CPU, that itself is a bad one. Probably it's gonna bottleneck and thermal throttle when using with High end GPUs.

At $999, it looks like there's finally a real Macbook Air competitor. If only battery life and trackpad both perform almost as well as the Air, this will be the go to College ultrabook.

This looks like Razer's attempt at a Macbook clone lol.

THe only dealbreakers are battery life and RAM.

Um also... WHY THE FUCK IS THERE A 4K Model? On a 12.5 inch screen, no less!

@kameshss Is there an i5 model? the i7 base model is way too expensive for what you get.

Interesting, that's actually a pretty good price.

Battery life will probably be mediocre, and dual core only is disappointing, although not surprising

That cpu can easily run games with a mid-high class graphics card or so. I have a i5-2540m (2.6-3.3GHz) with a desktop GTX760 and can run nearly all modern games maxed out. If the adapter works with other machines, just grab a Dell with "no" bezel for a lower price and better support. Then you are golden.

Thunderbolt 2 uses different interface. Thunderbolt 3 has USB Type C interface.

The Razer Blade just released is almost $1000. Just when I thought Google's pricing in Europe was outrageous for its phones, Razer come and do this.

I am curious if the core will work on other notebooks. :) Once it is confirmed it does or doesn't I will be happy. If it does work with other notebooks one could get a desktop cpu in a laptop and use this thing for a desktop replace without needing a high end gaming laptop that cost a ton.

There must be a way to use the Core with TB2 ports. Active adapter/cable or something.. Imagine the market with all those rmbp out there.
