Microsoft planning to be a bit more aggressive about the Windows 10 free upgrade next year (for Win7/8 users)

GoodBytes

That's exactly why I use the start menu.

So, no reason to upgrade to W10, the start menu in w7 works just fine :)

I must say, it always amazes me just how angry/upset/passionate people get about how others choose to live their lives.  Especially when the choices of person A do not affect person B in any way.  Yet people get so heated.

People will upgrade when they feel like it benefits them, or accidently.  No one does things they don't want if they feel there are better options.

At the same time, there is no reason to get upset because others are upgrading.  This is all 100% personal opinion, about what people like or don't like about an OS.  There is no wrong answer.  Everyone just calm down.

On a side note, I will be staying on Win8.1 until I can't play the games I want any more simply because I don't want to do another upgrade, and really don't want to wipe my system for the umpteenth time.

Yes, and goons will come over at your place and smash your windows and your car, and your game console if it is not a Microsoft one. And in 24h you still don't upgrade, bye bye computer and they'll burn your home down to the ground.

Switching to Linux anyways. Will probably dual boot with Windows 10, but it will only be for gaming. Windows is no longer trustworthy as a daily driver. You can try to manually block the upgrades and telemetry, but the OS continually tries to bypass it.

are all yours system running Windows 10 now?

my laptop is, my desktop is not and I don't plan to until I have to

when the time is right, I will buy a W10 FPP licence and won't do a upgrade from W7; I've also skipped all the KBs related to the W10 upgrade

---

on the laptop I'm already experiencing issues with WU forcing driver updates over the one I install; even tho I made all the changes so respective devices are to be skipped

I'm on W8.1 and I'm just fine and happy with it. Nothing W10 has shown warrants an upgrade for me, so no thanks.

I tried Windows 10 for a few months, but I switched back to Windows 7 because I didn't like it. That's about it.

But muh privacy. I do believe that if you are connected on the internet some nasty ass fuck hacker can penetrate that privacy of yours. It's the internet, everything's possible even if you say that you are secured, you don't go to shady websites, etc., etc.

Ehh i just wonder about changing PC parts and Windows not detecting it and makes it go unactivated or goes back to 7.

But thanks @pspfreak for that free Windows 10 key so don't have to deal with that, if i didn't had the key i wonder all the pain i might go through since i will most likely change my motherboard.

Its not shitty

and why do you care about the tracking

It is quite broken - I've seen issues attempting to set up VPN's, enabling features and just general instability.

I already get a popup every few hours on my laptop.

Desktop is also on 8, I'm assuming I don't get popups since I've already upgraded to ten before with the same key

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

You can't manually assign DNS servers or define gateways when a VPN is enabled. The properties box is greyed out.

No, not until the os isn't shitty, forced updates, excessive tracking features, if vulcan does well enough to allow me to avoid having to get dx12 I'll never upgrade.

1. Please elaborate upon its shittiness

2. I don't think I've had a single update since I've had mine, unless they're discrete.

3. All tracking can be disabled with one program (or manual registry modifying)

I'm still gonna hold off until the OS is a bit more stable, maybe a service pack (or whatever they call them now) or two.
