"Everybody is moving to Mac"

TopWargamer

I am in an AP class this year, but I'm going to drop it and take the regular version of the class instead. It's too much work for me right now. I don't want to get home and work on my AP homework for the rest of the night (which is what I currently do).

You really shouldn't unless you know for sure you can't handle it. I'm American, and even worse in FLORIDA, I know first hand how terrible the education system is here and slacked off so hard until I started taking APs. You're really not going to get anything quality in public schools in anything less than AP/IB, honors is just as trash as regular and arguably the people in honors are even worse. More than half of them are dimwits that can read.

Though it won't show -- I'm trying my best not to sound like an elitist and I'm going to sound like a ginormous douchebag when I say this, but the reason you hear so much about Apple and their popularity is because you're seriously hanging out with the mouth-breather crowd. The people you'll meet in AP are a different group and entirely different culture than what you're used to. It is much more independent, less homogenous, and free of mass culture. it's refreshing when people you talk to don't all like the same damn thing. We even had some Apple bashing in my Lit class ;)

Trust me, the work load isn't that bad, especially compared to real life. I didn't have the most free time in the world when I was taking 4 APs and in Latin 4 which was harder and more time consuming than any of them, but I urge you to at least keep that one (ideal minimum two.) That pain in the ass, annoyance, and frustration you're feeling probably means it's a challenge and you're better off goofing around and skipping to some place else if you're going to skip by with barely legal education of deplorable quality.

Apologies for off topic.

I think this should clear a few things up:

1) I don't go to a public school. I go to a private school.

2) The people in my AP class (it's just me and 2 other guys) are pretty cool guys who aren't Apple elitist.

I'm not a slacker in school, it's just that AP is legitimately too much for me right now. In class I usually keep to myself and pay attention, and make fairly good grades. So yaaaa.

I see more and more Macs around the university (including my own), I don't think saying that the Mac is on the rise is entirely wrong. It's faaaaaar away from taking over though.

I suppose the first will nullify most of my points. As long as the content is meaningful and isn't memorizing crap and spitting it out, then you should be good. You're somewhat lucky, my AP euro got dissolved because we only had 8 people in it, lol.

Traditionally, high school is writing a resume for college, hopefully you're able to make it more than that.

Nothing wrong with getting a mac. It's a personal choice and frankly as of late they're getting better.

Though I think Ultrabooks are absolutely stupid.

I can agree, Florida schools are crap. We have great colleges here but public school is a no go for my kids, Private school is the only way to go here.

I'll make up for it with good grades, because I didn't do too well last year, but that was because I switched schools that year and quite frankly became depressed as the year went on and just gave up. I have a new mind sight now though, so I gotta bring my GPA up from the current 3.214 where it's sitting now!

As more and more people buy personal computers, be it laptops (especially) or desktops even, the larger amount of less tech-savvy people we will see buying computers. And those people, especially if they are older, will find the mac experience appealing in its "less maintenance" kind of way. I don't think OSX is reaching a wider range of people, i just think that the size of their current user group is growing, and will plateau eventually....if that makes any sense.

Personally I don't see paying a premium for a size reduction beneficial. Sure, most people don't need a GPU but for a computer that you're shelling out $900+ for, I'd like to see some sort of graphics in it. PcPer advertised a Dell that has an i7 (that is not low voltage), 8Gb ram, 32Gb SSD/1Tb hard drive, and a 2GB Radeon 7730M which has significantly more muscle than integrated, and for all that it's $600.

While a Dell Ultrabook goes for $1200. I find the Ultrabook scheme a way for Intel to get more products sold that in general aren't much superior to a similarly kitted regular computer. Toss a 256Gb SSD in that cheap Dell and you're better off.

But you're right, if you want to buy quality but don't want a Mac, an Ultrabook is a way to spend your money.

For those of you who know of or have heard of craigslist, take a look at computers for sale there and you will understand very quickly why that graph is wrong because in my area, there is roughly 6 mac's/ipads for every 1 "PC" for sale. So obviously the people who wasted the money for a mac are unhappy and trying to get as much back for them as they can.

I'm going to be using OSX for the majority of things though I may or may not have Windows or Linux distro. I currently use OSX for 90% of the things I do.

Sigh... Specs are not the only thing that drive price. Smaller components to fit in a TINY casing, good build quality, flash storage and R&D all cost money. I've said this so many times; why don't you guys understand it? You don't just pay for the specs. Why would you want a GPU in a computer with a ULV CPU? Why would you want to increase heat output and decrease battery life for nothing? People who buy Ultrabooks do not expect to game on them, and a dedicated GPU is absolutely unnecessary for web browsing/word processing/programming etc. Anything more than a ULV i5 or i7 is not needed for these tasks.
