Depends on the quality level of the rifle. Some of the small parts like detent pins and springs are a great place for manufacturers to cut a few pennies out without anyone noticing.

Pump action Benelli Nova 12ga. The over-unders look nice, super high quality craftsmanship, usually really great triggers, but not exactly field and stream type shotguns. They are niche, like benchrest precision rifles.

i haven't seen many extractor failures in AR15's in my time. very rare. They are made with very high strength steel.

I have seen a few fail at classes. And to be fair, it's usually not the extractor, it's the spring that breaks. 

 

Two M&P15 Sports and a PSA BCG. 

 

EDIT: I'm not saying that it cannot be a headspace issue, I'm just pointing out other places that there could be a failure.

Got the shell out, I did shoot it like I thought.  

Tried a different bullet and just put it in the chamber, it fit right and came back out

Might just be a one off fluke. Every one of my .22LRs do that at least once in the first 500 rounds, as well as my Bushmaster.

 

Though, see if you can move the extractor by hand. If you can move it with ease, you've got a weak spring and would replace it. If it's hard to move or you can't get it to move, then the spring is good.

Doesn't seem like it.  

I'm hoping it's only a fluke, this is the second time I've ever gotten to fire it.

plunk tests in rifles generally don't really show too much. pistols, that's a different story. they headspace off the cartridge mouth. rifles heaspace off the shoulder. if the headspace is wrong on the cartridge or the chamber, it wedges inside and is locked in place. firing the round usually results in a stuck case. was the rim of the brass wrecked?

Didn't look all that wrecked before I threw it out.

Think I'm gonna sell my CZ SP-01.

 

Went to the range yesterday after work with my XDM 9mm and my CZ. Didn't like the CZ as much. Jumps around too much despite being larger than the XDM. Also the trigger kind of kicks back and hurts my finger.

 

Whereas the XDM remains a wonderful little thing to shoot. Much more accurate and has a better trigger. Despite having a shorter barrel I was far more accurate with it.

wow really? Trigger slap on the SP-01? If you like the trigger on the XD, check out Power river precision triggers. I have one in my XD45 full frame and it is AWESOME!
