Literally there has been no update to this story since then, all that happened was Theresa May came under some fire about it after bringing it up again, and suddenly everyone remembered again what was proposed 3 years ago and stopped (By Nick Clegg believe it or not) Then re-proposed again by David Cameron a couple months back.

David Cameron is well known for trying to censor the internet arbitrarily. I still remember when he tried to ban porn a few years back.

Btw, this isn't just messaging services, they're trying to ban encryption period, so no encryption for your bank stuff, no HTTPS, no encryption for sensitive business documents, hackers are going to love this. Anyways, I'm going to download as many of these apps as possible so I can have a local backup and can setup a torrent if they get banned.

Tbf most of us didn't, they only got a 36.7% vote share, and that's only out of the people who actually did vote, it's more than likely that over 50% of the UK don't want the Tories in power, but we're stuck with them non the less because of our stupid voting system...

I remember awhile back I got into a spat with a member on LTT who happened to be British. The reason? They got mad when I pointed out the UK is a massive nanny state. Cameron only further confirms the obvious.

Terrorism is bullshit, It'is always in the news, Our government makes massive policy & privacy changes, its all fearmongering...

Back in the real world over the last 10 years more people in the uk have died from

Bee stings or Toaster related accidents, than terrorist attacks...

We should kill all the bee's and ban toasters as they are more dangerous...

Well we are certainly doing pretty well at achieving at least one of those objectives. RIP bees :( I'll miss the honey...

And try to create the idea supported by fear that Encryption is bad

and "You have nothing to fear" - Which will know is BS due to how much our data moves

This ^. Humans are terrible at judging danger accurately. When something harms us slowly over years or decades we really couldn't care less. But when its chaotic and sudden we panic and think its the end of us.

It will be interesting to see how this would affect liability. If I buy from Amazon and the UK government has not allowed them to encrypt my purchase information, are they liable if someone steals my CC info? If someone gets my SSN (or whatever the Brit equivalent is) because of a lack of encryption would the government be liable?
