Pet peeves when it comes to people building PCs

ANewFace

Built my S340 rig with it standing up. ;)

That's a different situation. Some people, like one friend of mine, are actually scared to OC, yet purposely bought a Z series board and K CPU. >_<

It used to bother me but then I realized it wasn't much different than building on the side lol.

Depends on the case. Some cases you can do the whole build laying down - which is how I built Project Stalker. Others, you have to have it standing up. ;)

I agree! My nzxt h660 was a beast of a case. Had to finish the build right side up.

What bugs me is watching people installing components/screws without placing a hand on the other side to keep it from tipping over... ;)

Yeah, I watched a video where a guy installs his video card and leaves it hanging while he went to get the screws. It would have been horrible if it fell....

Sometimes I wonder why people want to spend $300+ on higher end Haswell's entirely for gaming. Personally unless someone does animation and tons of rendering, yeah go for the i7s and beyond for the hyperthreading. If someone just wants a decent gaming rig I don't know why anyone in their right mind would think 970 chipsets are terrible. They're so cost efficient and sometimes I think people just buy intel devices just because they say intel on it disregarding the fact they want a bang for their buck. My only pet peve tbh is Corsair PSU's. My CX600M was faulty and happily replaced it for a Cooler Master GXII 650W. I heard these PSU's last for years on end and I fully believe them because everything runs so great. :3

My next build I'm trying to decide between z97 or x99 platform. I'm leaning more toward the x99 because of the theme of the build being a "powerhouse". Even though it's just for gaming.

Basically the z97 build will be around $3000 and the x99 will be around $3500

I don’t know why but it bugs me all to hell when I see threads that start with "my friend is looking to build a PC" its like this guy is so lazy he is having his friends look crap up for him. if your friend wants to build a PC a good place to start is to put in at least a little effort for it. or post here him/her self. well unless they have not hand/or arms than I’m sorry. :).

Well sir I did this for a friend because he knew he would make bad decisions due to his inexperience. He nearly put 2400 ram when he wasn't going to overclock and had budget still... Point being asking for gel from the right people is not a weakness...

It's a tough choice, lol! I don't know really but the x99 seems to be a better choice, if you plan on running Quad SLI on that thing, lol. =3

Most likely just two 980 ti's in SLI. It'll have the acer 1440p 144hz ips monitor, and figured I'd like the expandability to 3 way SLI if I ever step to 4k gaming.

If you're spending that much might as well go to 3 or 4 980 ti's for 4k gaming lol. :P

I've thought about it, but until they come out with a 4k 144hz <5ms ips monitor, I'll stick with the 1440p and two cards.

Plus jay from Jayztwocents showed that 4 way SLI didn't perform much better than 3 way, so having the 4th card would be a heat producing paperweight. I know I'm spending a lot of money, but I also want performance to be there.

People

What do you mean by that?

Like when people install Windows, then don't install their drivers.  Or they just use Windows update to get drivers.  Or they turn critical features of Windows off (like Windows Update) because they have Tin-foil Hats...  OR when they use a torrented copy of the install media, because they are too lazy to just go to Microsoft and download it there...

Do you want me to continue?

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

My pet peeve is people ragging on a power supply model for a random DOA (can happen to any model, it's random). Doesn't help if they then pick crummy stuff like Cooler Master GXII instead.

You do understand that Windows Update just finds the Microsoft approved version?  WDDC or something like that (I dont remember the acronym.)  Not to include it wont install utilities that might be needed, AND it doesnt work for every model of every device.

See, its people like this that grind my gears.  "der der, my speakers make noise so my drivers work"

Do do realize that functioning and working arent the same thing?

And drivers work just fine under Linux. In fact the only drivers you will have issues with are proprietary, and they are actually very easy to install through (in Debian based distros anyway) the included driver utility. As for software, you get prompted when there are updates.

My point was during insider the 130 build update function broke and you had to manually override it because it couldn't do what it was supposed to properly to get 159 or higher. And I'm not suggesting that "speakers make noise therefore drivers work" logic...

I was specifically refering to Windows.  My time in Linux begins with Ubuntu and ends with Arch.  I rarely use them as I actually need 2 programs that are Windows only.  That and I dont feel like spending 2 hours a day configuring my computer so I can get pretty fonts (I'm being a tad bit overbearing here).

  1. Ridiculously flashy BIOS skins.

Super bright LEDs

Anything with the RoG logo, or "GAMING" in a big font (just a personal preference, but I don't think it looks very professional)

Good-looking computers on messy desks

Huge cases with very few components

you'd hate me....

ROG custom bios.

LEDs on meh RAMz

ROG MB and GPUs

3 different sized monitors and a clutter-vertically desk

900D, not water cooled yet.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

2. People who have VERY strict budgets. The people who say, for example, give me a $800 build and you give them something that costs $820, and they say, "That's to expensive I can't go over $800." That's ridicules you can spend $20 more to get something better. And don't say you don't have the money for it, you can get $20. The same thing goes for components, people will say, "I need a GPU that costs $330." You give them a 970 for $350, and they say they can't go that high, yes you can.

Sometimes you're 14 and got 800$ as a gift so you can't really go over that.
