Pet peeves when it comes to people building PCs

ANewFace

Not all famillies give you money for chores.

There are also other ways to make money.

I'm not saying all families pay their children for chores, but some do.

I can understand that. I guess I'm mainly talking about people who are in their mid teens like 14-17. Any younger than 14 I could understand not being able to do much to earn money.

My Pet Peeve:

People thinking all Open-Source Software is Free. (For Instance: Red-Hat-Enterprise or SUSE Enterprise (Damn Novell be Pricey!))

People who spend $200 On a PC. And then $100 On an OS.

The People who think Linux is still in-mature.

People who think Mac & Windows Are The Only Operating Systems.

People who say Windows is still the largest OS... Haha, ever heard of Servers?!

Top-10 Linux Operating System Lists.

Systems Users not named using the "sysadmin, sysuser" rule.

When people say which mobile OS is more secure. (If you care so much, go get your self a damn simon or DynaTAC!)

People who pay $50 US for Anti-Virus. Monthly. (Heya Norton & Intel Security!)

People who mess up "CPU" and "Computer Tower".

When people buy a $200 Computer, and then complain that it is slow.

What's Linux?...

Oh, it's fantastic. If I didn't need windows for gaming, I'd be on Linux 100%. I run Ubuntu on my secondary PC (project stalker) which is also a gaming rig, there's just fewer games to chose from. But that list is growing everyday as SteamOS is actually based on the Debian Linux distro. :)

Also, there's a way to run Linux as your main OS and install windows in a VM with PCIe passthrough to your big GPU for gaming. That way you reap all the benefits of Linux and can still have your windows gaming experience. If anything happens to your windows (virus or malware) you can simply revert back via VM snapshots and everything you have outside the VM is protected. It's pretty darn awesome. :D

I hate Ubuntu, and Antergos doesn't like my GTX 970 apparently, so I can't get that to work.  Ubuntu just annoys me honestly though, I hate Gnome.  I like KDE.  Doing the VM stuff you mentioned is just way too much work honestly.  I use linux on my laptop which I rarely use, but Windows is my go to right now for the games like you said.

I was said "wat?" because you said "in-mature". I think you meant to say "immature". I knew what you meant though. ;)

To each, his/her own, my friend. ;)

I enjoy Linux because it forces me to learn what's going on and gives me total control over what I can do with the OS and hardware. The possibilities are just about endless. With Windows I feel restricted and strapped-down. Though, Windows is getting better, I've noticed they've now incorporated many aspects, features and elements which have been available and standard with many Linux distros for quite some time.

When someone is so incompetent from having any virus protection or any common sense and have a ton of viruses after building a second pc because the first had problems with sli and streaming....

WTF 3 systems in less than 6 months... While the other 2 are collecting dust

when people buy a new pc, and then come to me with questions like "should i have bought this?"

also, people who arn't using SSD's because the GB per dollar thing isn't to their liking yet compared to HDD. even if you get like a 40GB SSD and use it just for windows, the performance increase is just not debatable!

Actually that drives me crazy people who only get like a 60gb SSD. A 120gb is like $10 more, so 60 is pointless. And there are some programs that you can't put on the D drive, and have to go on C. So a 60gb or 40gb is pointless.

1..its also totally stupid

2...yes..they can...if they can get 800..they can get another 20...if they can't..they shouldn't be building a pc..and should be more worried about buying food and clothing

Not stupid at all, some people like to build cool/smart looking PCs, akin to hot rodders

and what about younger people, a kid may be given/saved 800.... they can't just magic more money.

You can get $20 from somewhere that is BS if you say you can't

When your parents are living paycheck to paycheck and your 14 you would be surprised at how hard it is to get even $2 for a pop.. Not everyone can justify an "extra $20".. And to be honest it's the same right now, I'm living payday to payday if I choose to spend that $20 on PC parts I have to make sacrifices, do I get the better (insert whatever here) or do I not feed my animals (not an option).. Do I go with out food for 2 days because I chose to spend the extra 20? Or will I just be niccin out cause I'm a smoker and that 20 is equal to 2 packs of smokes, 2 bags of cat food, 2 days worth of meals for my self.. You see not everyone is well off, most people have to make rational and careful decisions on what they spend money on. Trying to justify that " if you can't find $20 " is making you look like an inconsiderate ass. Sure its a tech forum. Tech costs. That doesn't mean people don't weigh the options.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

I think he means by doing chores (if your parents pay you for it), maybe mowing grass or some side or odd job that a kid can do to make some money. When I was 17 I had a job, I didn't depend on anyone but myself for money. If you're younger than hell I used to mow the grass for my neighbors for $10 each. That was $30/week I made before I got a real job before I was 16.

Odd jobs for me was shoveling snow in -20c... For $5 a driveway.. Not worth it when your shoveling 3 feet of powder for an hour..

my biggest pet peeve is when people put together potential builds for people at their maximum budget without including an OS

well people on a budget are probably just gonna pirate stuff! i built my PC on a budget and still enjoyed windows and AAA games.

Not everyone has the bandwidth to easily and quickly re-download their steam library.

Not to mention a few gigabytes worth of Skyrim mods.
