Worst Tech mistake you have ever made?

Mitch

You seriously just almost fried your 290X that you just got last week or so ?????? For that, I plan to shun you for a week. In fact, the entire community should.

Yep, it got to about 100C, maybe more. lolololololol

Losing files because of a lack of back ups - definitely this.

RAID1. It's painful to see your storage half, but it is so nice not having to worry, "Will I lose this file...? I need to put this on my flash drive. And my external. And my etc."

Took me a while to cave and RAID1 my Red's... but I regret nothing. <3

this one is idiotic.. well i tried to run a GPU without a heatsink, it was actually a Gigabyte Geforce 8400GS then boom.. I started smelling burnt sausage and i knew that the graphics processor overheats excessively and it needs a heatsink to reflect the heat off the computer through the fans thus it was a successful experiment.. dearie me

Worst GPU i've ever had!

I was building a gaming desktop (the one I'm actually using right now). When doing the test build (when you put the motherboard on it's box and you test your core components), I tripped over the 24 pin power connector and my motherboard fell off of the desk I was working on  and actually scratched the paint on my case on the floor. Suprisingly, the motherboard still worked.

Had a blunder here.  Was working on installing a UPS for a server room.  Dropped something on the "off" switch for a Surge Protector.  Needless to say, 4 servers were killed bringing down the WiFi, PoS, and Advertising.  Thankfully everything worked on the first try and came back up in 15 or so minutes.  Stayed in the server room longer than needed to avoid the higher ups...

My first go at overclocking my GPU went tits up. I moved the slider up too far without noticing (god knows how), clicked apply and it just kept crashing. Put it back at factory speeds but it was still unstable, I guess I must've damaged it. It's now running at stock (the card was factory overclocked so it's technically underclocked).

I read on the forums that someone (as a pretty young kid), forgot to install the motherboard standoffs, powered on the PC, and then completely fried the whole thing.

A client put Vicks vaporub in his disk drive to make it slide better. Needless to say, didn't work too well and it gave the computer a very strong scent.
