Should we Post the Booth Babe Video?

LinusTech

We live in a society where people want us to be so equal that people looking at a model is considered demeaning.

A lot of men are so afraid of being considered sexist we don't even want people to think we like attractive women.

I guess Linus is the best looking thing we get to look at in his videos.

I'm quite at a loss as to why this has become such a massive topic, other than as a soundboard for the patriarchy/feminist arguments that you see popping up in many threads.  From the standpoint of professionalism, it makes perfect sense for Linus Media Group not to post the video, and frankly I would have taken Linus's decision, albeit without a poll.  Furthermore, it should be noted that Linus and the mod team are not stopping you from looking at the booth-babes: there are pictures on the forum posted by forum members.  To me, at least, it seems at odds with Linus's drive for a more professional set-up, and a tad disrespectful of what he is trying to achieve, for forum members to expect him to actually provide the material that some people may find offensive.

Most of the videos in LinusTechTips channel isn't really "professional" nor is it meant to be.

That is for the Techquickie channel.

If Linus really wants to be "professional" that would mean he would have to change everything he has been doing so far.

You guys realise its perfectly possible for men to be 'booth babes' too right - only theyd be called 'booth hunks'.

Anyone shouting sexism is pretty much sexist themselves, frankly.

Upload it, no point making the video then not uploading it.  If people don't like it they can dislike the video.

At wedding expo's etc companies do hire some male models to fufill the same position as booth babes.  These men are commonly associated with the hens party booths.

Linus, please post the video. If not, at least post a video of slick in a bikini or something else of equal or greater entertainment.

It's the 2nd last video we made and we weren't even going to bother with it until we got a ton of requests, but it seems like now that I've tweeted out teasing the video we are getting requests NOT to post it.

Since this is such a delicate matter, and it was something we only created because the audience demanded it, I need to be sure the audience actually thinks we should post it so I will be requiring a 90% vote in favour of posting the booth babe coverage of Computex 2013.

If it's any less than 90% in favour, it will not be posted.

90% ? that's really harsh...  It's funny, It's what 86% of your viewers want, and It may attract more viewers to the channel if they come across the thumbnail with the booth babes on it.  Lets be brutally honest here, most people have clicked on a youtube video just because it had a "sexy" thumbnail. They'll check out the girls, maybe click on the channel name to see what else linus tech tips has going on for it, and maybe become a subscriber. Just like that, we might get more people hooked onto linus tech tips :] .  And lastly, like nearly EVERYONE else has said, If you don't want to see the video, don't click on it!

I'm perfectly fine with the video not being uploaded - there's hot babes/porn whatever all over the internet, if i want it, i can find it.

But, i do have a point to make. which is;

I have no idea how having booth babes is sexist, people calling it sexist are just weird in the head. It is simple, the majority of high end tech customers are male, what do males like? Pretty Women. If there are women happy to take the job & this in a way, is a form of advertising a product to boost sales, then why not? So the next time we see booth hunks promoting a product aimed at the female audience, do we scream sexist towards males? No. Because people who aren't feminists don't make themselves heard for just about any random stupid reason.

People who scream: "SEXIST!!"  think too much when in actual fact, they are the sexists/extremists who deem anything to do with pretty women = sexist.

These people should be banned from life & society for failing so hard & constantly trying to stir up social unrest

*facepalm*

Basically, it's not really sexist. The problem is that it promotes sexist tendencies by objectifying women and making them appear to be "for sex". If you think that's stupid or wrong, you obviously don't know what "conditioning" is. The reason it wouldn't be considered sexist to have men do this job is because men don't have the history with sexism that women or the gamer culture do. It would take a lot (like 200 years+) to have positions flipped to where the same situation we are in now, but with men and not women, occurred.

The problem and the reason people are against it isn't because "booth babes are sexist" or "posting a video only about booth babes is sexist". It's because booth babes, and particularly the idea of a video explicitly about them of this nature promote sexism by doing what I said they do in the sentence with the bold words in it.

How about people like you 'condition' yourself to stop linking images of pretty women to sex? It is a primal instinct no doubt, but this already shows that you are already making a terrible linkage to these booth babes, when i mentioned nothing of sex in my post whatsoever.

If sickos like you walk around the street and every time you see a pretty lady your brain goes 'Holy shit great for sex' i would be seriously creeped out. Eye Candy is fine, warped mentality of some men isn't, and who are you to tell people who don't have warped mentalities otherwise? Especially if you yourself has already made the link of pretty ladies=great sex item

There you go again with that psycho babble bulls**t. I guess you're conditioned (see what I did there? I can use bold too) to not admire a beautiful woman who has obviously taken care of herself with extensive cardio and by eating right. If anything we should all watch the video and admire these women for not being part of the obesity epidemic that's sweeping this country.

I'll make an exception to my prior statement for this one post. Which I'm not really taking seriously either.

Because humans aren't easy to read (sarcasm).

You, me, and everyone else knows that most of the people who would actively watch such a video wouldn't be doing it to, and I quote again, "...admire a beautiful woman...".

What people should do and what they actually do are hardly ever the same. And part of figuring out how to change that is realizing and accepting it's true.

And I'm done. *washes hands* Do what you will, but if you can't see how and why I'm right, there's nothing I can do for you.

I voted no, but the above video must be seen.

I don't really care whether it's uploaded or not, but I think it would be unprofessional. Much rather it'd be part of something else, not a free-standing video about booth babes, this is really where it gets stuck in the mud for me.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

LTT is not about "tech". Its about ENTERTAINMENT.

assuming tech="technology" and not "reviewing/advertising/selling consumer electronics". lets face it - channel would never gain >300k followers if it was about tech

although both options (posting babes or not ) are equally fun thanks to sexless-freak-discussion, I'm a kind of dissapointing by Linus' comments about "tech".

C'mon, man, it's hard to hear about tech [without smile] from people who can't even figure out how to operate a camera OR set up a livestream
