Should we Post the Booth Babe Video?

LinusTech

As a girl I do find the whole 'culture' around booth babes some-what silly. however it does seem to have a certain glamour to the job, so I can see why so many girls would love to do it
But I think if you had posted it, it wouldn't of upset anyone, or made a difference to how people see the channel. If they wanted to watch it they would, if they didn't then they wouldn't/shouldn't.. But who am I kidding it's the internet, damned if you do, damned if you don't.

because you aren't amire them based on anything other than their sex appeal. The shear fact that they were hired to stand around displays in revealing outfits for a bunch of men to start at is bad enough.

Yeah, they're sexy and atractive as hell, and both girls were doing their jobs at computex, nobody put them there against their will. It's not a bad thing to be good looking and showing yourslves to the people that way, also I'm pretty sure they liked to be there.

So stop being such a Beta, and just don't whatch the video if Linus decide to upload it

I find the unrealistic sob story hilarious quite simply because humans are quite simply lazy. And 95% of the population would rather take the easiest route. Those instances of only finding that single degrading job, nope unreal there is always work it just depends where you actually want to work most people don't want to work as a garbage collector, or a security guard on a night shift or even to go to the agricultural side and work on a farm and/or ranch or even working at a gas station at 3 in the morning. There are jobs out there but most people like to take the path of least resistance.

there is never only one job you can take. That job is the only job that fits into your tunnel vision version of the world.

As people we always have a choice nobody can ever make you do anything except yourself

Being at Computex 2013 and taking loads of pictures, the photographers actually respect the booth babes. Photographers that take close ups/multiple shots of different poses show the booth babes their pictures after the photo shoot out of respect, and delete the bad shots/awkward poses... As it is right now, ~85% wanted to see Computex booth babes. All the booth babes that I saw there were all well aware of their job, and actually enjoyed posing for pictures. It's a form of modelling.

For those that are interested in high-res(4k*2k) pictures of them, I took ~350 shots of different company's booth babes.

I can't afford to buy most of the products Linus reviews, I watch Linus videos.

I couldn't see the booth babes myself, I wan't to watch the video.

I don't want to watch the video, I just not click on it.

You don't want to watch the video, then don't watch.

Simple as that.

some of us are adults ffs. how sad are you that you think every male is like you and objectifies women. there not being objectified because there not there under duress. they have entered into a contract where they accept money to stand next to items that are inherently boring on there own. so they hired girls to glam them up. they aint sexualized because they aint on stage prancing about in a sexually provocative manner. if you think they are then you are dumber than you look...

why do i think your dumb? because you have already made up your mind that you wont like it without actually seeing what content was there.

thats both ignorant and pathetic...

hey linus ban that guy coz he posted a video that i havent seen but i heard may have boobies in it... what do you mean no. i got 15 votes from 100 saying he deserves it, yeah none of them have seen it either but it must be porn because it has the word babe in it... ffs...

This forum is not a democracy. I set the unrealistic 90% goal so that ultimately it would be my call whether or not to post it. The decision was made by me after reading the posts in this thread, not from the results of the poll.

The sob story post about the people who don't want to do that job that has people staring at them was certainly moving, but the flip side of that argument is "Would they actually be better off if they were not employed at all? I guess they decided this was better..." If everyone refused to look at "booth babes" then they'd all be out of jobs, and the (likely fabricated, but certainly realistic) stories above would be about a bunch of people who AREN'T supporting their kids or getting through school by doing a job they're not happy with...

All of that said, I'm not some kind of women's rights expert (or so my wife informs me) so rather than make a decision based on arguments about a topic I understand not well enough, I instead focused on the arguments about our identity as a community.

If we wanted it to be about ogling girls we could hire girls to stand in front of a camera squishing a video card between their breasts and we could film it. That has never been our style. First and foremost this is a tech channel and a tech forum. There are lots of other sites where you can stare at girls (or guys... or animals for that matter) so it's unnecessary to post it here.

I wanted to see that video, but soooo much respect right now. Linus, you are the coolest cat on the internet. A++

Wait... How is this sexistisk? These peoples' jobs are to look good and promote a product. What's wrong with saying "yes they do look nice"? Would it be bad to tell a fireman that he is doing a good job, because some people might think being firemen is the only thing men are good for? Is pretty much the same logic.

Personally I think it's more sexist to say" no you are not allowed to watch these women do their job which they themselves choose to do, because I look down on their choice of profession"

I hate this new trend where women aren't allowed to be good looking, no matter if they choose it themselves or not. I have never seen anyone say "oh no we are not allowed to show an athletic man without a shirt on TV because that's degrading towards men", yet I hear "we are not allowed to show lightly dressed women on TV because that's degrading towards women" all the time. Isn't it sexigt to make special rules like that?

Sigh, people are still going about how Linus should post the video. I personally don't care if he did post it or not, but that's because I was there at Computex.

If you still wish to see what you missed/ want to see booth girls, I've compiled (and spent hours) uploading a bunch of goodies in my thread. Will be adding some motherboards to the post when I'm done uploading pics.

Yes. If gamers were predominantly female and it was a question of "booth hunks", it would have been posted and nobody would have given it a second thought. And someone PLEASE explain how this is going to give LTT a bad name with anyone but extreme feminists. It's not like it's porn.

If it can mean anything to anybody at any time, it means nothing.

So three examples to counter the "they made the choice to be there" argument. Names have been changed for the first two.

Alex is one of the guys you see standing shirtless outside of Abercrombie. Employment can be tough for college students in our area, he likes the brand, so he applied for a job. He was hired, and excited about it, until they told him what he'd be doing. He hates it, yet he stands out front, looking hot (because he is), smiling and flirting (and also being part of the store's loss prevention program) because it's his job. He is paying his way through med school. He is constantly looking for any other job that provides flexibility in scheduling around his classes.

Katie can be found as a model at local boat shows (we're home to the Bass Pro Shops HQ, we have lots of boat shows). She shows up, does her job (and also looks quite hot doing it) and when she gets home, I usually have to go over and calm her down because she's in tears. Why does she do it? Her husband left her three years ago when their son was born with Down's Syndrome. He wanted neither the personal or financial responsibility of raising a special needs child. He fled the country so she receives no child support. Her parents disowned her because she married a man of a different skin color. She does what she has to in order to provide for her son.

And then there's me. I ran a webcam years ago when I was in college. Again, in this town, it was very difficult to find work that would be flexible with my school schedule (theology degree, there's a great combination). I was approached by someone who operated an "adult" webcam site and I became one of their "models." I hated it. At least for me I didn't have to see any of the people staring at me (though I was required to chat with them). But it paid the bills. I was able to stay in school and also eat and have a roof over my head. I only stayed at it for four months until I, thankfully, found a decent paying job elsewhere.

So just because someone is there by choice doesn't mean they necessarily want to be, that they necessarily enjoy the attention, or that they would want videos of themselves shared at random websites. Yeah, sex sells, but does that mean we have to actively encourage the objectification of either gender? Especially on a tech centered site? That is not the type of community I would be comfortable referring people to, nor is it one I would want to remain a part of.

So, if everyone had the same opinion as you, none of the people in these "stories", including you, would have had jobs and would either not have gotten through school or not have been able to provide for their children.  And before you say "they would have just gotten a different job", well, THEY COULD HAVE GOTTEN A DIFFERENT JOB.

Sure, there are men who really do objectify women and think they are nothing more than sex toys.  Those men are truly scum.  But most people see them simply as beautiful women who know they are beautiful and have no problem showing the world that they know it.

I'm tired of "equal rights" meaning "more rights for the previously denied and if you think so, you're sexist/racist/whever-ist".

If it can mean anything to anybody at any time, it means nothing.

for the most part i agree right up till the last sentance. he's actually more dammed if he doesnt because the masses wanted it and linus decided no after upping a poll that had a predetermined outcome.

fact is if he had of posted it this topic would be 3-6 posts long not 12 pages. so all he has done is give a voice to people who deserve to be ignored because there feminist ideals are outdated by 20 years... you know the kind of guys i mean. the 1s who were tough that being a man was a negative and that all men are perverts , the 1s who are still at home at 35. never seen a wet spot but demand every 1 should listen to there point of view because they have lived such rich and fulfilling lives in there mummy's basement... seriously linus the vid was meant to be a break from the monotony of 50 tech vids instead by creating this post yuou managed to turn what was light entertainment into a feminist penis burning.

I'm quite at a loss as to why this has become such a massive topic, other than as a soundboard for the patriarchy/feminist arguments that you see popping up in many threads.  From the standpoint of professionalism, it makes perfect sense for Linus Media Group not to post the video, and frankly I would have taken Linus's decision, albeit without a poll.  Furthermore, it should be noted that Linus and the mod team are not stopping you from looking at the booth-babes: there are pictures on the forum posted by forum members.  To me, at least, it seems at odds with Linus's drive for a more professional set-up, and a tad disrespectful of what he is trying to achieve, for forum members to expect him to actually provide the material that some people may find offensive.
