Yes! $209.99 at the time for the FTW version. Now it's like $300, so I managed to snag one when I could xD. All I need is the RAM and the monitor, and then I'm good to go. Mind you I do have upgrade plans in the works because the 1080 is still out of stock and overpriced to all hell >:(.

Awesome.  ?

Maybe consider a 1070 for now instead?  You'll save a lot even if you still would get 2 for SLI.  Then you could take the money you'd save and wait for a 1080ti to be released.  I've seen some 1070s in stock on Newegg so they seem to be easier to get.  I'm in the USA though so idk if the situation would be different if you might live in a different country.

That's what I'm doing. (not SLI though)  I decided I want the top non-Titan Nvidia card of the 1000 series but I also wanted a GPU now that was better than my 970 so I can max out Rise of the Tomb raider and other demanding games if I get them.

So I got a Gigabyte G1 Gaming 1070 to use until I could get a 1080ti if/when one is released.  Then once I get a 1080ti I'll give the 1070 to a friend of mine who would appreciate it.  This person wouldn't have an easy time affording it otherwise so it'd make me happy to help them out by giving them the 1070 when the time comes instead of trying to squeeze money out of them.

I've also considered the 1070, but me, I'm pretty much on the extreme end. And if the 1080 Ti or the Titan P comes out and slams SLI 1080s, then I'll get a single one of those (if the price is reasonable that is). Also I do 3D Animation and Modeling aside from gaming, so having the available CUDA cores for GPU rendering is something for me to consider, as I can greatly accelerate my workflow using the GPUs + my 5930K CPU in Nvidia Iray in 3ds Max to render would pretty much result in an exponential boost in rendering horsepower with 5,120 CUDA cores available for Nvidia Iray vs 3,840. That's something for me to consider aside from raw GPU frequency because I cannot afford Quadro GPUs; something that Autodesk programs will run optimally on (including FirePro GPUs from AMD, but those are outdated if I were to buy new right now)

So what's your take on my usage model?

My Usage Model Explained

  • Gaming: Pretty self-explainatory. Most demanding game I have as of 11 July, 2016: ARMA 3. Would like to run all of my games at 4K with graphics settings as high as it can comfortably go running anywhere around 40-60 FPS or more (very dependent on the game itself).
  • Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya, Mudbox, and SketchBook: These are the programs I am learning to use as part of my computer graphics and video game development major, which my PC is built around as well.
  • Adobe Photoshop: Another program I am learning as well (see above)
  • CryEngine V (I'll add this very soon when I get my system up and running) I am going to learn how to use this engine and will make this my primary
  • Unreal Engine 4 (I'll add this very soon when I get my system up and running) I am going to learn how to use this engine. It's always good to be flexible in using different engines, right? :)

Assuming I'm understanding your question correctly I'd say it looks good.  Aiming for approximately 4K at 60fps or close is my goal too.  I think I'd seen some benchmarks for a 1080 that seem to indicate we're right on the edge of that being possible for a single GPU.  My hope is that the 1080ti will accomplish that.  It seems that the Titan cards are way to overpriced to be worth it.  Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure I'd seen benchmarks that showed a 980ti could either match or come very close to a Titan X with the 980ti being about half the cost of a Titan X.  Unless there's some feature of a Titan that would require it I'd say skip them.  As for SLI it sounds cool but there's apparently some issues including a lack of universal game support for it so I don't plan to bother with a SLI setup.  Not to say you're wrong to use SLI.  I just mean that in my case I feel it's not for me.

I'm not at all familiar with those various programs but it seems you're planning to learn a nice variety of programs relevant to your personal and career interests so I'd say you're good in that area too but not being in that field idk if maybe there's anything to add so I'd say keep an eye out for other useful programs.

Just don't spread yourself too thin while learning.  Better to learn some stuff very well than too many poorly I'd think.  I'd say do as much as you feel you can handle.

The headband pad, and headphone pads that I ordered for my HD650 came today, might throw up a picture if people bother me about it.

Gotta get off my bum and actually paint these headphones now like I said that I would.

I have around 3 or 4 AT keyboards and probably 2 spare AT PSUs laying around alongside around 5 AT computers, I'll be fine. :)

Just regarding your setup. You should probably get a new KB And extended mousepad. And a longer desk with perhaps a grey wood would really complement it. That means your could show off you PC on your desk and add a dedicated headphone stand, pop vinyls, etc. Also consider getting some posters to spice it up a bit.

I've been watching waaaaaay to much swashin.

I always wanted to listen to a cheap-ish Marantz amp, so I bought a PM6005 and a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 225s.

IMG_20160713_202537.jpg

The ´CD´ player is an old Harmon/Kardon DVD player, which is connected with an optical cable.

I'm also picking up a Luxman casset deck either tomorrow or the day after.

And if I'm enjoying the setup I might add a turntable. It will be the ultimate office sound system.

Lastly, I do know that the speakers shouldn't be that close together, but I'm only testing for now.

Finally got around to replacing the gawd awful corsair stock fans on my H110i GT. The things use to rattle horribly when the system would start up or be under a lot of load, which is daily with project encoding and rendering.

The Stock corsair thermal paste was a mess to get off; it ended up being dry and hard as well. Despite that though, it was very good. Barely a degree difference between it and Thermal Grizzly on my system.

The Noctuas are okay, not amazing sadly. They're quieter at a higher RPM than the stock corsair fans, but aren't exactly better for shifting air through a rad. The sad issue with Air Flow fans versus ones directly made for static pressure on radiators. I wish there were some 140mm Gentle Typhoons out there.

Now sadly though, the loudest things in my system are the NZXT chassis fans and Corsair Pump. I can hear the pump now :(

Atleast the noctuas are quieter at 1850RPM, than the old Corsair fans were at ~1500RPM.

Psh, Titan X is old news. Get some 1080s if you wanna impress me. :P

Kinda /jk, but at the same time not. I bet you could crack 60K with a load of 1080s. EZ.

Oh yeah. Also I actually don't own the Titanator (Lol how original xD), someone else does, and is used for calculations and other workloads that doesn't involve gaming ;)

I've gotten some audio related stuff for my other rig (FX8350 rig with Gustard X12/H10 stack), and since I want to be able to play games on it w/o using my cans, I went and got a pair of used Jamo Classic 4 speakers. It's a bookshelf speaker, but rather tall....minor ding and dents here and there, but looks great as a whole.

Went and got a 6m length of Canare 4S8 speaker cable, chose it because I can bi-wire the cables on the speaker end.....it was a short and fun project for me. Bought some heatshrinks to give the DIY cables a 'pro' look.

A couple of shots of the Virtue One amp I'd gotten to drive the speakers.....

I should be getting a Beyerdynamic DT770 250 Ohm tomorrow, will post a pic of it......

Got the DT770 250 Ohm today, in very good condition, swapped out the stock pads with black replacement Beyerdynamic pads for that all black look. I must say I'm surprised to note that the bass wasn't boomy at all, very nice and tight.....some may even say it lacks bass.
