Console OS... A competitor to steam OS?

Shd0w2

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mmv/console-os-dual-boot-android-remastered-for-the-pc?ref=category

Console OS Pro - Android Remastered for the Desktop We've rebuilt Android™ to be a primary operating system for your PC, 2-in-1 or PC Tablet. Over 100 new features built-in already

What if your desktop, x86 tablet, or 2-in-1 could rock both Windows® and Android? What if you could take your $199 Windows tablet and dual-boot with it?

Android on the PC. Android taking on the desktop. Lots of people have talked about it -we’re delivering.

Introducing Console OS with Android™ Inside. We’ve taken Android apart, and put it back together for your PC. Console OS is a fork of Android designed to take everything that has made mobile awesome, and bring it back to your PC.

This isn’t an emulator and this isn’t homebrew. This is real, native Android that can really toggle with Windows on your PC.

My thoughts are, could this become a competitor to steam OS? and if people don't really jack up and create apps for this "new" OS, will it just crash in burn since it is primarily for "gaming"?

Leave your thoughts here!

Soo... It's Android for PCs... Not an actual Console OS... That's a terrible naming scheme.

Amazing Console Quality games... Isn't that an oxymoron ?

We decided to debute on kickstarter because we couldn't get finance from a bank and venture capital companies laughed at us.

This idea is going to fall flat on its face just like the ouya.

A few people will use it but the masses will forget about it.

Seems they took android x86, fixed safe boot bug, added open GL update and added a new skin.

If it gives me full 86/64 support (not emulation) and has full hardware acceleration it'll be a winner.

Considering SteamOS (linux) as a lot less games than android it could actually be rather nice.

On another note they said licensing in the video which implies you buy it but Android terms state you must release all sources so anyone will be able to compile it but you wouldn't get the GUI (that would be their code and not subject to android terms) but there are plenty of launchers on the market you dont need a "steam big screen" style gui to play games.

Looks interesting but I don't see how it could be a competitor to steamOS.

It will runt he same engines and same games.

Plus that is the shittiest most biased comparison I've ever seen.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I don't like it and it won't be successful. I like how LInux does it in that you have many distros of the same overarching OS that is Linux. Windows should do the same so you could have the Metro OS and then the proper desktop OS distro. Also Linux is getting more and more gaming support all the time so I don't see this getting anywhere.

I highly doubt that this will be successful at all.

This sounds REALLY interesting, but is definately not a SteamOS competitor. If this comes out I will be installing it, looks promising!

I can toggle between a mobile OS and a desktop one. I think a lot of people can. It's called Windows 8. :D

Joking aside, I think the only thing this has over Android is that it is able to be installed on PCs and also can easily switch between Windows and Android. I don't understand the name, and I don't think I ever will.

Although, I think Android is already going in this direction, with Asus said to be creating 'Android Books'. Also, Android already functions VERY well with a mouse and keyboard. Check out this video of someone using their phone as a PC by hooking up a mouse, keyboard, and display. Nevermind the fact that he was playing GTA using the Mouse and Keyboard.

Also, he is only using a galaxy nexus with an old version of android. It's very liekly the experience has been improved since this.

Personally been waiting for Google to make Android a unified experience across all platforms (PC, phone and tablet) and this brings it close. Can always trust community developers to do the work.

It actually won't require that much. Google can tie all of its services together using Drive, effectively syncing between any PC (Windows, OSX or Linux), Android devices, and to an extent, Apple devices.
