Someone take Linus' phone away from him or disable his twitter

Aluminumhaste

He was going off last night and just kept responding to every one, it's freaking embarrassing.

This thread in particular:

He's making everything worse. These replies just inflame the trolls which draws Linus in further.

Just stop.

Please, for the love of god, you're doing 0 good and lots of bad to your image and brand.

You honestly sound like a whiny *****, crying that people aren't being fair.

It's the internet, when is it ever fair? Let the product stand on it's own merits.

Well since LTT doesn't make screwdrivers, how do I get a good grasp of the quality without knowing the manufacturer?  Trust Linus?  No thank you, especially in an industry that has to know these things, like how we talk about RAM, PSU's, GPU's, etc.  Lots of vendors, and it all boils down to manufacturer.

You do realize that things made in China aren't automatically bad?  We need to know WHO makes it under WHAT processes, not where.

I want to know if IFixIt makes it, and it's similar to their XYZ model.  Or SnapOn makes it and it's like their BVF model.

Otherwise it's just a standard screwdriver that you can buy anywhere and all the lemmings are just that.

Wait is he not allowed to defend his product because the internet is the internet? I wasn't aware standing up for yourself was now the meaning of whining. Man I feel old, back in my day a person was allowed to defend themselves and things they made/did, and that was like a right, free speech and all. Times do change...

If your fanboyism is so bad that you can't see why this is such a bad look, that's not great.

People at my work who know I'm a fan of LTT have been texting me about this, telling me he's coming off like a douche who has no faith in his own products.

Like potential customers being completely turned off because of this whole debacle with first the warranty thing, and now this.

You can say he's doing fine, but from outsiders, he's really not. Would be much better to just let the haters stew and let the product reviews prove them all wrong.

I never said I agreed with his post at all, but you chose to assume my allegiance instead of reading what I actually wrote. Along with fanboys come haters, both relying on a non objective view/reaction of the situation. You think he's doing bad, and that's fine. You're more than entitled to that opinion. But that's your OPINION, you don't just magically get the right to force him to stop voicing HIS OPINION. Free speech is not speech with no consequence, it's speech subject to public scrutiny. He has the right to say what he wants even if he's wrong. And we have the right to disagree with him and voice our opinions in response, even if WE are wrong. But no one gets to force him to close his mouth or take his phone away. Now I'll give the benefit of the doubt and assume you weren't actually threatening to run to his house, assault him and steal his phone. But just like his free speech is subject to scrutiny, so is yours. Your post wasn't worded as an objective critique encouraging engagement. Your post was just rude yelling thru the internet. Your post is what we call being a hater. Hence the sarcastic tone I used and frequently use on my children to point out the fallacies in their arguments.

Insanity is not the absence of sanity, but the willingness to ignore it for a purpose. Chaos is the result of this choice. I relish in both.

Ratchet mechanism was shifted to China after their Taiwanese producer got bought out by a major tool brand. Linus stated the quality of their early samples from the Chinese supplier were much higher quality than the ones from Taiwan. Plus they were easier to communicate with for feedback.

Otherwise yes. The handle and final assembly is done in Canada.

I understand why Linus is doing what he is doing, hes very proud of his product that his team has spent years developing and a lot of money on. The pop up gave him a ton of positive feedback. That said, some people aren't gonna be convinced otherwise. A reoccurring theme in the actual screwdriver thread is someone posting that there are alternatives for more than half the price of the screwdriver. To some, the quality of the product doesn't matter as much as the price.
