Thread for Linus Tech Tips Video Suggestions

CPotter

Hi everyone. This is just a suggestion for a vid combining items that are possibly still in your inventory.

After watching your youtube videos showing both a mineral oil pc and another liquid cooled pc using an aquarium chiller I couldn't help ask if you ever try combining the two? It would probably take a full night to bring the temperature down on all the mineral oil. This could prevent shorting of the components if the temperature is set below ambient due to condensation. Another option to add would be to add insulation around the aquarium to prevent heat gain from the ambient air and isolate the mineral oil pc as well.

Thanks for reading.

Have a good one.

I'd love to see a video hosted by Brandon, a full overview of all the filming gear used. Not so much the ingest process and anything after, but a look at the lighting options, audio setup, prompter, what stuff is hung and what stuff moves around on the floor, camera rigs, gimbles / steadycams / harnesses, an average shoot setup etc.

All of these things have probably been mentioned / covered before in different videos, but I'd love to have it all in one video: the lighting and shot composition in recent videos has been paticularly impressive.

Ave,

Disclaimer: Idea comes off the back of some reminiscing Eve fan fest and going drinking with the server and office infrastructure CCP staffers.

Wondered if there would be much of an audience for (and if so, could LMG investigate?) a studio visit type video for a game developer - but focusing on the companies IT team & infrastructure. Must be some with some fairly heavy duty toys to handle all they've got going on?

They did do a video at Monolith Studios in 2017.

And an interesting video it is too. Wasn't what I had in mind though. When I say IT team and infrastructure, I mean the team who are doing everything from prepping and deploying new workstations to babysitting the servers, the monitoring and protections systems. In the case of online titles, the host servers, networking, load balancing, etc?

Additionally - it would be interesting (for me at least) to see any particular similarities // differences between LMG's setup and the game company. Both are after all very much content production orientated.

It would be really cool for you guys to review the Eluktronics MECH-15 G2 15" gaming laptop. It's a barebones, but kitted out you're looking at around 1400 for a RTX 2060 or 1650 for a RTX 2070 Max-Q with i7-8750H cpu. Crazy amount of I/O. One NVMe drive, one NVMe/SATA slot, and optional SATA 2.5 drive bay. It's not that "gamer-y" of a laptop, has a pretty incredible 144hz screen, on the thinner side of laptops, and it has an outline with crazy thin bezels so the overall laptop feels much smaller than 15". I just got mine today and it feels pretty incredible, especially for the price.

And a great trackpad! Really!

(and I don't work for them. but I'm just really impressed with it over the past few days)

Concerning the value graphs for graphics card reviews

A good graph in a review should make the information clearer and decisions one makes upon it easier. Therefor I suggest that LTT should in their reviews present the value for each graphics card by showing the graphic card as a point in a two axis graph. On the vertical axis you have price and on the horizontal axis you have performance, see picture below

Example graph:

pricetoperformance.png.9e6e1b99a08451c521ad05ff5be80175.png

When one present the information this way, the viewer doesn't loose any information as one does when just showing the Performance/Price metric in a tabular. The viewers is still able to make out what is a good or bad value by comparing the position for the different graphic cards in the graph. For example we can see in the example graph above that a GTX 1660 has higher performance than a RX 590, GTX 1060 or an RX 580, however an RX 580 still might be a good value for a consumer with a smaller wallet. It would then be up to the consumer to decide how much performance one needs and what one would be willing to pay for it.

Also please stop using the Performance / (Build Price + GPU Price) metric. This assumption leads to that if your other build parts would drop in price, a cheaper GPU would increase in "value", while in reality if the price of the other build parts goes down any sane consumer would either put those money into savings or buy a more expensive & powerful GPU which is exactly the opposite of what your formula suggests!

PS. Numbers in figure is just for proof of concept.

I would love to see a video where you work with CIRA https://cira.ca/ Show what they do other than just manage the .ca domain. One thing I would really like to see if how CIRA is working to build internet exchanges across the country https://cira.ca/ixp to make it easier for companies to keep our data within the country without having it go through the US. They are working on a new exchange up in Iqaluit which sounds like a fun trip.

I think it would be a great education video. Also if you could convince them it would be awsome to get to transfer some data from vancouver to halifax at 10Gb/s.

Hit us with your best Linus Tech Tips video suggestions! This is to replace our old "What should we review next" thread. Linus or one of the writers will read these suggestions, but they may not reply to you in this thread directly.

Linus Tech Tips

I like to view a review/comparison between AMD Store MI technology and SSHD and SSD.

AMD announces that you can have up to 2.8 times the speed of a mechanical HDD.
Can you test it?
It would be interesting to know if it is a cheaper alternative.

oh and by the way that eluktronics computer is made by another Chinese barebones company called Tongfang. Clevo makes most of the barebones chassis in the US, but I'm guessing Tongfang is trying to get in on it too

Gaming setup powered by human sized hamsterwheel or bicycles hooked up to dynamos.

Just think of Linus gaming while several staff members are powering the rig on bicycles or the hamster wheel.

I would love to see a good break down on affordable surround sound systems for pc's.   I have been through 3-4 in the last few years. As I have yet to find anything I was satisfied with, I have settled on running my pc sound through a good home stereo receiver and a bunch of speakers.   If there is something better at 5.1 that is affordable. I would love to see it.

Had this idea in a thread about what should someone get for $2k, a PC or an XBox, needing a TV/Monitor too.

Video idea, compare 55 inch TCL Roku TV (~$560) + $1400 PC vs XBox One X + 55 inch OLED.

Does the increased framerates of the PC make up for the decreased visual quality of the LED TV?

The Raspberry Pi 4 (when it comes out).

What is actually supposed to go here? Some people put their specs, others put random comments or remarks about themselves or others, and there are a few who put cryptic statements.
