How did you guys save up for your PC?

Guest
Go to solution Solved by lani100,

Work, Repair some stuff for family and friends and ask some money for the jobs and I buy some used hardware and build computers and sell them with a llittle profit.

Hey fellow tech heads, I have a simple question for you guys. How did you guys save up for you PC? By that I mean did you have a part time job and save 20% or did you walk the dog and saved forever? I'm looking for ideas to buy some computer parts. I'm almost going be in jail for murder with this crappy laptop. Thanks!

I literally shoveled chicken and horse poop.It took 8 months but in the end i got a smexy Pc :)

I did it by spending less than the money that I made each paycheck. Do this for a couple of paychecks and depending on the percentage that you are saving, you should have a decent amount to play with.

I could do that, but my dad is really set with Apple like for real. I could receive a Macbook no problem. THough I hate apples.

Fixed other peoples PCs for money and one or two odd jobs

I basically did the same thing for the startup I built back when I got my first pc, it was a cheap AMD athelon 64 though.

My current rig I did the same thing for the basic components (i5 2500k (and mobo), 8 gb ram, 2 x 2 TB hdd, GTX 560 and a 500 watt thermaltake power supply) Between 2010 and 2011. Later a few months after Ivy's release I bought my brother a 3570k and gave him my older 1 TB drive I had from my first build, bought myself another 2 TB. I then later upgraded my graphics card to a 660 Ti for the sake of a friend of mine so that he could have my old 450 that my brother used and my brother could get my 560.. Now I have a full time job and bought myself a 680 for the price of a 760 and gave the 660 Ti to my brother as an early birthday present. I paid for my monitor with some money I earned from my current job as well as some Birthday money I got from all over the family. (it was my 21st so everyone tried to pitch in)

There are a few extra components like my PSU and other 8 gb of ram as well as a few other things I didn't mention since I can't recall exactly when in the timeline I bought them, however I paid for everything I didn't mention myself as well.

PS. keep in mind prices in South Africa are crazy because of tax and inflation.

Edit: Just a mention, The only computer component my dad has ever bought me in my life and probably ever will is a Geforce 9500 GT (1 gb GDDR2) quite a while ago.

I worked full time for 3 months before building my RIG including monitor and peripherals.

Even now, I'm working at the same place but as a part time instead.

You need money? Bloody hell, no wonder the police chased me from the store. I thought they were just jealous.

Look for a job. Try recycling in your neighborhood. Make some signs that you do recycling and have them call you for old shit they don't want and then you carry it to the relevant centers and get some quick cash, just make sure you check with you local laws to make sure you don't need any special licences. Scrap metal pays a lot.

Yea, to be honest, I really ''dislike'' people who ask their parents and they get it. Wish my dad did that

i wish my dad wouldnt have done that. i got what i wanted but seeing as we were quite poor at the time i feel soo shitty now about being a little brad asking for unnecessary parts all the time.

I get quite a lot of money for Christmas and my birthday every year, though I'm not often allowed to spend it. It wasn't a matter of waiting for enough money to be saved up in my case (I was always well over the amount I'd be willing to spend on a new build), rather I waited until I was allowed to buy a PC.

Got money from various holidays and used that money to build my PC and upgrade it over time. My PC started off as a pretty cheapie system, but now its going to be a BEAST!
