Please can someone confirm if this is legit

I have been DMed on Discord saying my Steam acount will be banned for scamming/dupeing items and I dont want my acc to be banned. The Discord name is Brandon1#0239 and he sent some gifs that I will leave below

 

EDIT: Hes asking me to log out of my Steam so he can "connect my account to the Valve database"

Of course it's fake. Valve doesn't contact people on Discord, period.

Anyways, if Steam would ban you for something you did against their terms of service, they would message the e-mail linked on your Steam profile.

Block this person and move on.

While I always appreciate a bit of scambaiting, people should only do it if they are doing it safely so there is no danger of a script kid doing something dumb to their account.

Seeing as OP haar been hacked before, I woulsnt recommend doing that sort of stuff.

Just so it's 100% clear: Valve (you know, the people behind Steam) will NEVER EVER ask for your username or password -- why would they, since they already have those! --, they will never use even Steam's own chat, let alone any non-Steam chat like Discord or Whatsapp or anything. Even if someone contacts you using Steam's own chat and says they are from Valve/Steam, they are lying.

How would Valve ban your account, if your account wasn't in their database? That doesn't even make any sense.

Just replying to that last line, they would by asking the information. Then when they access the account, they can do stuff that will ban the account

No, that's not how it works. For an account to exist at all, it has to be in the database. If it's not in the database, it doesn't exist. Accounts aren't just stored in thin air.

To build on this advice, pretty much no reputable company will ever contact you asking you for account details, passwords or any other personal information over any form of communication, period. If they have an issue they'll more than likely send a paper letter.

 

If you ever get anything like this and you're not sure, hang up or end the chat then contact the company they claim to be directly using their official customer service number. That way you can confirm its a scam and report it to them.

 

If you get contacted by a company you don't do business with, ignore it.

Why would he ask for an email?? If your account was going to be banned, it would not be sent on some chat page or discord server.

I duckduckgo'd the discord user and guess what post turned up! What a small world we live in.

 

BTW: He got the discord users from the r/Steam public server, I already contacted the mods and the quickly banned this account from the server, tho I doubt it will help anything. They'll just keep creating new burner accounts.

Just out of curiosity, are the gifs taken by you or them? They don't show address bar which is already bad sign. One needs to known the website address to trust it overall. Which is also why we don't allow most link shorteners (YT and Amazon + LMG links are fine) to be used.

So the reason why they don't show url is because its most likely either local test, or running on some shady site. Legit tutorial would show address as they don't need to hide it.
