Youtube alternative?

LPChip

Hi there,

Does Linus Media Group have a youtube alternative?

For 4 weeks now, youtube is broken for me. I don't receive email notifications and as a result, I'm missing a lot of videos now. I've sent youtube feedback like 100 times now, but even that function is only working 20% of the time.

It sounds like YouTube is dying, so any other platform I can use to keep seeing these videos?

Thanks.

yotube remover email notifs. LMG does have floatplane, nut its not technically a LMG thing.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

For LTT content, the best alternative you can get is Floatplane.

For everything else... .... There's not much, unless you consider Facebook videos or Dailymotions to be viable alternatives.

Youtube no longer send out email notification. The best you can do now, is simply click the "bell" on a creator's page. This will notify you, on youtube in the top Right corner on desktop, whenever they upload a new video (You will need to open Youtube to see the new videos notification)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB / RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR4-3200
MOBO: MSI B450m Gaming Plus / NVME: Corsair MP510 240GB / Case: TT Core v21 / PSU: Seasonic 750W / OS: Win 10 Pro

You can actually have it (in FF and Chrome) notify you outside of YouTube so you don't need the tab running youtube open all the time BUT you need your browser open to get the notification otherwise it will just notify you when you open it again.

Yes there is but you (prob) won't like it

Bilibili (also called "b channel")

and

Niconico

Both far better than yt but have slightly different content (which also helps making them better)

Floatplane isn't free as far I know and has only live content?

If so it might be an alternative for you, but it's not really the same as a conventional video hosting platform (imo)

Floatplane and LMG are sister companies. They are separate for legal and financial reasons.

No. Floatplane has on demand videos. For LTT it even gets them earlier than YouTube.

Don't be a slave to notifications. Just go directly to the channel page once a day or something to check for new videos >> https://www.youtube.com/c/LinusTechTips/videos

I currently use my phone with notifications turned on in order to save videos to my Watch Later playlist, so that I can watch those videos in one go from my tv without touching anything.

But I'm now simply missing notifications due to the sheer amount of channels I'm subscribed to. I'm pretty sure I'm missing lots of LTT, SC, etc videos because of this.

Also, I got a message from youtube that they're going to do things with playlists and that certain features are going to be removed in the near future, but they did not specify what is going to be removed.

So if the Watch Later is going to be removed, Youtube is dead to me. Good to see that Floatplane exists. I'll probably switch to that then.

Floatplane looks interesting. Is a subscription only for one channel or for all channels? And are the other Linus Media Group channels also on there? I only see a Linus Tech Tips, not a Tech Quicky etc...
