LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

Just now, Gorgon said:

That has happened in the past for the exact reason you noted. You will get credited eventually for the QRB but it may take some time as last time they had to take the servers off-Line to run the queries to fix it.

@leadeater got some ridiculous amount of points that day

I do remember that. He got something like 100M points in a day or something crazy like that.

Thanks. I guess there's no way to avoid it at the moment but at least it's good to know what is happening.

just joined, been a fan for awhile and thought my miners would need a break from mining so i switched them all over.

just brought online

27 1070's

2 Titan V's

2 2080TI

4 big Xeons

lets see how it goes, Hopefully there are enough WU around.

I sure hope your running Linux as if your GPUs are on PCIe x1 risers under Windows that PCIe bottleneck will hurt.

Let us know how those 1070s fare. I’d be interested to see how many Points per Day they get.

Dont forget to get a Passkey (see sticky at top)

The reason it's showing a ridiculously high PPD estimate is because your TPF (Time Per Fold) is showing as 0.01 seconds. TPF is part of the equation for determining the estimated PPD.

Now as for why your work unit is stuck on 99.9% and not completing, that I do not know. If there's nothing abnormal in the logs then I'm not sure what could be happening.

Try pausing/unpausing? Restarting the client?

I completely glossed over the TPF.

The actual work unit wasn't at 99.9%, it was at 93% at the time and verified in the log. I did pause/unpause, restarting the client and restarting the laptop completely it still shows that. However, in the log it has advanced normally and is reporting its at 98% completion and is downloading the next unit as normal.

You know even with the Assignment Work Server issues we’re really rocking it.

Almost 2 Billion points today.

makes you wonder what we can pump out once they get enough WUs in the pipe and capacity to serve them up.

It's interesting to see how far Folding@Home has grown over the last few years. To think the LTT team has made more points so far this month than all folders combined for the entire year of 2008. Crazy! (But they didn't have 2080Tis back then 😛)

Interesting that there was such a large dropoff in 2019. Implies miners were a significant chunk?

ya they are under windows right now.  They are doing decent but i expect some bottleneck, they are in the 75% of what they could do but hey there are 27 of them.  The switch was easy so i thought i would switch them.  mounting them to full size slots would require a massive refit.

Same, I've already dropped from 125k to 100k estimated and it's only half way uploaded. Could still fail...
At least it isn't stuck for days where it could time out and then expire.

Set this up on a Beast Dual Core Xeon E5-2670 sitting on a Asus Z9PA-D8 with 64gb ECC Ram and a GeForce GTX 650 Ti.  But alas, I have the WU error.  :  (

I actually ran into this project when looking into the most recent uploads of Linus Tips for media servers using Plex.

But look back only a month, and across a few years. 10x WU this month, nearly a years worth, and we'll hit last years total in less than 3 months at current rate.

Edit:

And then there is all the post cleanup fixing and likely QRB retroactively given out :)

a 25% reduction for PCIe x1 risers for a mid-range Pascal Card is still not too shabby. 1080Ti and RTX 2080 Ti's really suffer apparently.

But look back only a month, and across a few years. 10x WU this month, nearly a years worth, and we'll hit last years total in less than 3 months at current rate.

Edit:

And then there is all the post cleanup fixing and likely QRB retroactively given out :)

Oh yeah, I did, it's an amazing thing to behold. Folding this year is definitely going to be one for the record books. I mean look at 2010 74.3M WUs and 39.5B points, and then you look at last year with only 30M WUs and 952B points. I'm anticipating what this year is going to end up looking.

I'm looking forward to the retroactive QRB points.

@NinjaWolfess @Rune Check your logs and see if 11776 is starting to upload now. Looks like the server is back online but uploads are very slow (must be a lot of people trying to upload all at once)

does the giveaway only start on 27th march

Correct. The event starts on the 27th. The prizes won't be given out until after the event finishes.

Starts March, 27th (00:00 GMT)

Ends April, 10th (23:59 GMT)

Though it's always a good idea to get set up a few days in advance, make sure everything is working properly and any overclocks are stable. If this is your first time folding you might also want to submit at least 10 work units so you can qualify for the Quick Return Bonus.
