Apple’s swiping keyboard will autocorrect your typing to your intended word, but there are some restrictions.

Apple really doesn’t want you to swear with its iOS 13 swipe keyboard. You may only say ducked.

According to this Reddit thread, certain other offending and inappropriate words are also being censored.  Someone even commented that murder was censored, but this is another detail from the reddit thread.

It's always kinda been one of iOS' "quirks" to censor swears with autocorrect. I could be trying to type "fuck" but accidentally type "fucj" and it'll just autocorrect it to "duck".

I don’t think my keyboard ever knew of swear words, I’ve always had to manually add them to the dictionary.

This is correct, and also still usable as a solution.

The best solution, at least in regards to this news article, is to not use Apple products.

Gboard does this too but there's also nothing keeping it from learning "fuck"

never use a swipe keyboard, always been typing manually

I've found it is useful for some one-handed situations. It won't be my default mode of typing but it is a good option every once in a while.

In Gboard there's an option to allow 'offensive words', so you can swipe swear words all day long without having to teach it them

Apple's keyboards have never had swear words in their dictionary. As long as the autocorrect on Swipe works like manual entry then its not a big deal as you can tell it to use the "incorrect" word anyway. Autocorrect sucks no matter the provider regardless.

Apple uses the user dictionary for things like autocorrect and spelling correct.  So if you just tell it "no, I really mean this word, and remember it", then you'll be able to use the word going forward.

I wish companies would stop this puritan moralizing bullshit. If someone wants to swear, that's their fucking thing. It's nothing more retarded than some software that has no relevancy to anything do this crap. It's why I never use any stupid dictionaries coz they all do this ducking shit.

This may be a good time to remind people that SwiftKey is available on iOS too.

SwiftKey does the same thing.

I fact, I think most of the popular keyboards does the same thing. They won't auto correct to offensive words unless you first teach them the words.

The Apple keyboard, like other keyboards, don't have "fuck" as a predefined word (because it could lead to very bad things if it accidentally auto correct to fuck or other words like that) and it won't auto correct to a word it doesn't know.

SwiftKey will accept it as a word much faster than the iOS default keyboard does, in my experience. SwiftKey only took like once or twice me typing "fuck" to start suggesting that, where my iOS keyboard flat-out refuses to correct it to anything but "duck" even still after teaching it the word multiple times. I have no idea how long it takes iOS to start recognizing a word because started using SwiftKey pretty readily after I got tired of "ducking" things.
