Like what if you goto gym and still eat shit? can you still get lifting muscles if you do weights but then eat junk shit stright after? or does it not work like that lmfao

 

beacuse building strong muscles is different than loose weight ??

I don’t go to the gym but I find the best way for me is to look to find balance.

Diet AND exercise. It's not that working out cures being fat and you can eat whatever. You will still have clogged arteries even if you do a ton of cardio.  If you eat healthier and workout you can loose weight, gain muscle, and so on. By just eating healthy you can feel better and maintain your weight. By working out you can loose weight. To gain muscle you need to eat accordingly

Sure you can build muscles if you use them. It will just take longer and you will have less gains for the amount of effort put in.

You need to gather a certain amount of protein to build muscle and according to most places like bodybuilding.com , it is about 1g/lb of bodyweight(or about .45g/kg). 

 

Technically yes you can build muscle on junk food as long as you are getting your protein needs met. However, this is generally not reccomended, as you may gain a lot of fat or bloat and it is generally better for your health not to.

 

You also need a calorie surplus in order to gain muscle(unless you are on steroids or are seeing newbie gains). To find this go to a tdee calc on the internet

You CAN but you shouldnt. Being thin or even in shape is VERY different from being healthy. In order to be healthy you need to eat healthy food.

 

You can look decent, be in shape and thin but still be in terrible health.

I own a gym, I eat whatever I want.  I train 5 days a week and eat roughly 5000 calories a day of whatever I want.  Pizza, burgers etc (not hard to hit 5000 that way) but I train insane for 1.5 hours 5 days a week.  I get a little chubby over the weekends sometimes bwuahahaha.

Make sure that you tailor your diet for your lifestyle and training regimen.

 

I start my morning with two eggs lightly cooked with coconut oil and sautéed veggies and a pint of goat's milk

I get my mid-morning meal as a 24oz of fatty yogurt (Greek Gods, if you're interested). 

Lunch is usually fair game for whatever I feel like cutting up from the local market before heading into work.

Personally I like doing 1/6 a head of cabbage finely cut, 1/6th of a red onion, 1/4th yellow pepper, cubes of meat from the night before (usually pork loin or tenderloin or whole turkey). Premade dishes are usually risotto, basmati rice and quinoa, or yukons with leafy green. Pasta doesn't sit very well unless I carry it around with me at school. 

Dinners are very diverse for me. I usually decide on what I want to make when I head to Detwiler's every evening. 

 

I do a 4-mile jog every other Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday and do plyos on Saturday. Monday and Friday are rest days and Wednesdays are weight training days. I change the schedule every season just to keep myself from stagnating (if that's an actual thing and not just a myth).

No. Weight loss or gain is 70% diet 30% exercise. I would not recommend to adopt the attitude that caloric intake is somehow mathematically related or you need a certain amount etc.

don;t eat shit food full stop,  you might be able to stay fit or feel healthy while you are young but trust me, you'll pay for it over time when you start to become deficient in key nutrients.

You know the link between caloric restriction and longevity right? 

 

I was 224lbs and 5'4" at 14. I dropped to 129 and 5'6" at 17. The only thing thats made me gain back weight was booze but i know thats detrimental and gonna kill me if i do it. People may think they can eat a ton of calories and just work it off but its not that simple really.

 

Unless looks are the only concern. You CAN do it for looks but its still not good for your body, which someone readibg this should consider before doing it.

 

The more calories you intake and burn the more wear and tear on your body from oxidative stress. Its like a car. The more fuel you burn and miles you put on, the sooner it wears out.

 

Or since we're on a computer forum, its like running Prime95 or Furmark and leaving your PC on max performance instead of using the DVFS features on the CPU and GPU. Only instead of oxidative damage or mechanical wear it would be electromigration.

I absolutely understand the difference between counting my macros...and being exceptionally happy.  I am exceptionally happy, in extreme fit shape (I a Warrior Nerd, own a MMA gym) and my last blood panel run last year I am as healthy as an Ox @ 34.  

 

What the plebs need to understand about this is that, in 10 years you will be in BETTER shape counting macros, than not counting macros.  But the delta between BETTER shape, and the shape I am in?  Ha.  Ha.  Ha.  And Ive been doing THIS for 10 years straight already soooooo (professionally) and been active in physical fitness since I decided to not be obese as a teen.  So I can tell you there is a minutia of difference.  Like...maybe a percent or two of body fat.  And my cardio?  Doesn't affect a thing.

 

There is no such thing as more calories in, MORE wear and tear to take it off.  Its just calories in, calories burnt.  I am 6'2 240 lbs of muscle...5000 calories is what I have to eat to even begin to do this 5 days a week.  Its super mathematical, and way more scientific than it gets but it comes down to this saying for the plebs to better understand:

 

Do you want to put swamp water in the gas tank of your performance car or put in premium fuel.  

 

Premium fuel = good calories in at all times

Premium fuel = cannot maintain long term, Ive never met an individual in the years of my owning a gym, and participating in gyms since I was a kid...that never fell off this bandwagon.  So my goal is to be on the bandwagon of physical fitness for life.  To do that, I have to be happy, and to be happy - Pizza.

Swamp water = happy

 

Id rather be happy, and doing this till Im 85 than unhappy a year from now with my bland chicken breast (been there).  It comes down to experience...been doing this a LONG time.  And Ive also competed at the highest levels on the biggest stages.  During competition training yes, I count macros.  

 

So I will tell you, always eat Happy, and train your ass off.  Want that donut?  Run another mile.  Want that extra half (yes half) of pizza?  Another 3 5 minute rounds in the cage.

 

The humans killed off the sabertooth with sticks and our athleticism and we have no natural fight instinct or weapons (blunt teeth, no claws) - the body is meant to take abuse. 

 

And in PCs its HEAT that kills silicone.  If you are properly mitigating the heat the lifespan of a CPU isn't measured in Idle, its measured in Use.

 

 

What you need to understand that is the WORST for your body - is lack of exercise coupled WITH a poor diet.

More calories in means more cellular respiration, and therefore reactive oxygen species(free radicals) produced. The more you run any engine, the quicker it will wear. Despite regenerative abilities, the body is no exception. Telomeres arent infinite in length.

 

When i was losing weight initially, i also got into anti-aging. The research 18 years ago was still pretty new, but its now well researched that caloric restriction increases lifespan in mammals. This is one of the many reasons that certain cultures have a great number of people who live to be >100 years old. They usually have similar diets despite being geographically distributed.

 

Its not just about macronutrients and calories either. Its about what specific things you eat, your microbiome health, oxidative stress from the environment, proper sleep and of course stress which affects hormone and neurotransmitter levels and feedback mechanisms. Stress is a killer and exercise and sleep definitely helps with that.

Heat affects how the materials break down. Electromigration is the actual process that chips degrade by. Unlike being able to simply reduce the temperature of a chip by adding a higher flow rate or lower temperature coolant, removing the waste products of cellular metabolism isnt quite so simple. Increased metabolism means more cellular wear and tear and therefore faster aging.

 

The body's antioxidant and repair systems arent easily controlled externally like a cooling system is.

 

And yes, poor diet and lack of exercise is worse than poor diet with exercise or no exercise and a good diet. That being said, the answer to the OPs question about there being a price to pay for eating junk and going to the gym remains. There most certainly is a price to be paid for eating junk and exercising it away. Its not that one shouldnt exercise. You absolutely should. But exercising so one can eat junk isnt a healthy approach.

And my professional opinion on the facts (like I said the mathematics are great) is that no one sticks to that long term.  Ill surmise no one as anyone other than the 1% of the 1%.  I train with those people, like the Scott brothers here in STL for one example, who are the 1% of the 1%.  There are few people who can actually stick to the factual, mathematical regiment for more than a very short period, to very few lasting a short period (in terms of lifespan) sticking to this kind of diet.  

 

Im espousing this because its the truth in Health Wellness and Physical Fitness Industry.  Been doing it a long time.  Those are great words, those are really good advice and for someone looking to at first drop a few pounds should understand that 70% of that weight loss will come from the kitchen.  But I do this for people wanting to live a lifestyle that's "livable" - sure I can sell the hardest lifestyle in the world to those 1% of the 1%, I do that too (World champs) but for the very vast majority (see other 99.9% of people) this isn't tolerable over a long period of time.

 

There is a reason a fad diet exists and is always profitable in its first year to distributors.  Then those fad diets fade away in the shadow of the newest "latest and greatest" 6 month weight loss plan.  

 

The people I train with, have been doing this for a majority of their life (15-50 years), and I have been doing it for over half of mine.  Im just selling people what works.  Eat and be happy.  Train insane so you don't stay the same.

 

Your very scientific approach is commendable, and if you are one of those who have been doing it for at least over half of your life Ill commend you on that as well - however the truth here, is not the reality of maintaining this sort of lifestyle.  

 

And finally - my testimony - my pizza eating, burger slamming, cheese crazed diet - there is no difference between myself and those who are the type who can manage a lifestyle you are talking about.  What matters at that point is technique and time invested in the gym.
