Lab Grown Meat gets closer to see consumer plates

The Benjamins

Quote

Laboratory-grown meat could soon be available, with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration announcing that they would oversee its production so it could be safely sold to consumers across the country.

A joint statement released by the two agencies said they would be working together to “foster these innovative food products and maintain the highest standards of public health.” The FDA would be in charge of regulating the collection, banking and growing of the cells used to make artificial meat, while the USDA would work on the production and labeling of food products.

https://www.newsweek.com/lab-grown-meat-coming-america-fda-usda-announce-1221418

I am really interested in Lab Grown meat becoming available. I can see it being higher quality, more humane, cheaper (when it gets big enough). It will also reduce the environmental impact the meat industry currently has.

So would you eat Lab Grown meat.

thats nice, if it can be made more enviromentally friendly im super for it. meat is great but todays production of it is a major source of greenhouse gas, is absolutly disgusting in some places and with this perhaps we could get more local production of all kinds of meats to cut down on transports. i could also see this being a great thing for those that choose to be vegitarians from an ethical standpoint :)

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I don't have any prejudice for this stuff really. I already eat "meat" products that are made of milk and vegetable proteins but have texture and taste of meat. I'm not vegetarian and I always defend the fact that humans are omnivores, but if we can actually do that, then why not. Cars liberated horses, maybe these meat growing farms will do the same for cows, pigs and chickens. I just hope it won't be like the scenario from The Island with a slightly different twist...

Why is this a thing? So people can eat meat without hurting the poor, precious animals?

to reduce the cost, space, and energy of producing meat.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

pushed by realists. Environmentalists are typically the no-evidence anti-gmo idiots.

Imo this is the next step, and if it makes meat cheaper I'm willing to give it a shot, and if it's successful you wont be able to avoid it. It will be in fast food and likely mixed in with yo ur real meat as a filler.

Why do you care who it's being pushed by? There are a wide variety of reasons for wanting to go that way, and many companies are investing to capitalize on the perceived demand.

That's a poor argument. Farming is not natural either, or using computers.

Farming is more natural than producing farmed products in a lab. Humanity has been farming just a little longer than we've existed

I don't mock people I disagree with. I tend to only go that route with the people that constantly try to force their opinions down my throat. If you disagree with me, that's perfectly fine. I couldn't care less. But when you try to force me to live your way and have the same opinions as you, then we begin to have problems.

It's basically that.

I don't care for lab-grown meat personally.

I think it's more of a cost measure. I mean, environmental impact is likely there too, but if they can get low cost meat on the market then hurray. Healthier people.

I still think it's a weird idea, though. I'd try it, but probably only in ground form.

Farming is not natural at all. Humans were hunter-gatherers for the great majority of our existence.

You were mocking animal welfare activists earlier in this thread. And someone getting a product they want isn't forcing anything down your throat.
