Still makes no sense to me, the air is barely heavier and thicker and it's immensely more usable just by virtue of having more than one port. It also costs less...? and the macbook does almost nothing that the ipad pro can't do for cheaper, not to mention it doesn't have the touch screen and pen functionality.

I think Apple named the line up wrong. It should be:

 

Macbook: What the Macbook Air is now. Mainstream model

Macbook Air: Fanless thin and light

Macbook Pro : For professionals.

 

The naming scheme makes no sense now.

I agree that it is a shame that they don't have any new news for the mac pro and then on top of that not having a dgpu option for the mac mini. Though I suppose it might be possible to plug in an external gpu (red team of course). Though with an external gpu it might ruin the minimalist feel.

just modded it to ATX myself, as the mod was already started by the previous owner its kind of butchered tho  its right now my barely used "play around with making games run on Linux" computer full off all my AMD stuff, which really isnt going that great tbh

yah i read all of it, your mod worked out much nicer because you didnt have a massive hole in the rear of your G5 from someone doing the reglue the old standoffs and cut whatever you have to mod before they bought the kit which again was almost impossible to find what it was  the PSU in my G5 is just sitting on its side on the floor somewhere in the middle because there was no space to mount it elsewhere nicely

Those are pretty nice looking, and refreshingly not crazy amounts of apple tax for the hardware

 

 

But WTF is wrong with you Apple? iPad "Pro" with no headphone jack, micro SD, second USB c? Apparently they again forgot that people actually have to plug things into work oriented products

Agreed. But it's probably 2024 before it's mostly complete. They'll lack Workstation-like CPUs, unless they're willing to pay AMD a lot for licensing rights, as they have a slew of MCM patents.

They haven't, but on a pro device they should. No professional photographer is going to take pictures with it, but its perfect for editing them. If they would of put a port in it would be easy, now you have to drag around yet another dongle.

What is most important in that setting is battery life. Hence why the thing gets 13 hours

I wish macbook air had 3:2 aspect ratio touch screen with 360 degree hinge. That would make it really good for note taking

iPad Pro 2018 with a keyboard cover would be better and cheaper if you're just taking notes and typing.

Cameras usually have full size SD cards not micro SD, so it would not benefit any photographer. I dont think the iPad is thick enough to have a Full size sd card slot. iPads are even thinner than iPhones

Just get a modern camera with a USB-C port. iPad Pro can direct import from cameras now.

Apple is going for significantly Vertical Integration with their Hardware & Software. They'll move MacOS to ARM rather than iOS to x86-64.  However, that's not what I meant.

 

What I mean is that Apple will almost never have the volume to make the creation of a mass-core Workstation or Server CPU worth doing. They can either keep buying from Intel or licensing a bunch of patents from AMD and run MCMs of their "normal" CPUs as a cluster. They'd bring in something that looks like Infinity Fabric to handle the issues, which isn't technically the most difficult issue, but AMD has those patents in spades.

 

Frankly, if Jim Keller ends up at Apple in 2 years, that's exactly what is going to happen, including Apple eventually running their own Server Infrastructure CPUs.  Apple is a big Cloud provider, though not the biggest. We'll see.
