Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

I used to want one of those. I’m sad they never made anything like it since

They're pretty "Toyota easy" to work on too and cheap to maintain.

I'm going to check out a 1986 Nissan 300ZX tomorrow, is there anything in particular I should know about them first?

Been a while since I worked on one but I remember fuel injector issues being not uncommon. Not sure if that one uses the optical distributor or not but those would go bad sometimes too, the sensor would get dirty and not read or the circuitry inside would fail.

Figured out why I can never be a YouTube mechanic yesterday....was working on a car with many 14mm hex head bolts that I expected to be other sizes. I said out loud to myself "14, 14, 14, 14, all 14! It's like a R Kelly house party!" DEMONITIZED.

Any fellow S197 or mustangs in general time trials/w2w/HPDE drivers in here?! Just put down a new personal best at Buttonwillow (Southern California track) Sunday, as did all of drivers in my time trials group. Temp was mid 40’s so the cars were making great power, and tires didn’t scrub out at all.

In key west I was watching cars fly through the water right here, completely washing water over the red car. Amazing how people just don’t even care…

It poured hard for hours. Barely got to do anything besides eat. How disappointing. We ended up getting tired of the rain and Uber’Ing back to the car… which was in a foot of water in a paid lot by the fire dept. It was fine but glad we went back when we did, lol. Ruined my shoes because I’m an idiot and didn’t take them off for some reason before getting out of the uber

man them fish tacos were great tho.

Fun little case study that I've been banging my head against a wall for a few weeks now.

Some back story, this car came in from a customer that just got it back from a body shop for a "minor front end collision" that now had a clunk. A 2017 Honda Civic Touring. Tech diagnosed it as a strut, due to the whole thing being bent. The customer seemed eager to get rid of the car, so they end up in leaving in a 22 CR-V. Tech that diagnosed it quit. Another tech gets the used car inspection. Does the strut through sales. Sales sells it pretty quickly and it comes back with a cruise control inop complaint. I get it because the other tech is in the dog house for diags.

I test it, sure as shit active cruise control instantly cancels with a double beep and "ACC off" displayed in the gauge area where it displays distance markers. I pull over, go through the infotainment to see if any setting is messed with from the previous owner. Nothing. I even do a factory reset. Still inop. So I switch it to regular cruise, that also doesn't work. Switch back to ACC, nothing. At this point I already know what it is. A brake switch out of adjustment. Seen it before in another car. Pull it into the shop, plug in the scan tool and do an all system scan... no codes in any module. Do a brake switch adjustment (basically Honda has a measurement spec, I just look at the data list and adjust it that way). Adjusted it, still no cruise control.

So I go through the data list for the integrated driver support system (IDSS). All the cruise control buttons register presses and releases fine. No double presses or anything. There is also a data list for ACC cancel request. I go test drive it, try to enable ACC, it cancels. Nothing stored in ACC cancel requests. Great. I legitimately have no leads with the scan tool at this point. I drive it on the highway and lane keep assist works great, just to verify other elements of the IDSS work.

I performed a VSA all sensor calibration, which sets the yaw rate and steering angle zero points. No change. Now I'm starting to get frustrated. I really focus in on the fact it has had body damage... Looking at the strut tower sections they don't look right. From Honda they are body color, but no clear coat. These are just primer, likely cost cutting from the body shop because its a silver car. I figure that the body shop likely did not aim the radar assembly. That should set a code, but I have to make sure its aligned regardless in case I have to make a techline case. I set the car, line up my target, go through aiming procedure, and it fails for a lateral target alignment out of specification. Every time it fails, it also hard crashes my laptop every time it fails which results in my laptop becoming a 2 in 1 after meeting the concrete after wasting 2 hours trying to aim the radar.

At this point its pretty apparent that the frame of the car is so out of alignment that the radar wont aim. My boss is a former body shop manager, so he knows body work somewhat. They can strip down a car and take measurements of the frame and compare it to specifications. So we decide to go that route. We are good with a body shop right by us, so they take the work and push it ahead in their queue. I was right, the thing was waaay off according to the body shop manager. Get it back a few weeks later, set up my targets, and it aims without any adjustment first try. Go drive, cruise still inop.

At this point I am about to start testing wiring, cable reel, etc. because I am running out of ideas outside of it. Then I finally get my first actual lead to the source of the problem. I check for module updates, most are the usual.... PGM-FI for the oil dilution issue, AT for symptoms, and VSA for a recall that was already performed according to Hondas system. That locked me in. Remember the frame rails that were primer colored? This thing wasn't in a "minor front end collision" if they had to replace those rails. Whats mounted on those rails that would cause this complaint? The VSA modulator, ECM, TCM, and radar assembly. I go to the parts catalogue and get a print out of each modules part number by VIN of the car. Compare it to the scan tool. ECM is fine, TCM is fine, radar is fine. VSA is quite a bit off. I look up a 2017 civic without entering the VIN in the parts catalogue. Match up the installed part number, and its for a 2017 EX-L without sensing. A 2017 Touring with sensing uses a completely different modulator. So using a different modulator works fine, does not set a code, can be programmed, can be updated, but won't allow cruise control to work.

Waiting on a part, but I am 99% sure this headache is finally fixed once replaced.

Recently purchased this 1998 k1500 for 3500 dollars, with the silverado and z71 package, 5.7l v8. Needs an oil change and an alignment, but other than that, everything's flawless. It's quite red lmao! I posted this on my updates too but I saw that this thread was here so ima post it here too! Has some cosmetic flaws and the windshield sprayers don't work, but a trip to the junkyard should get me all the parts I need to get it looking as good as it can get.

It probably needs lower intake gaskets and if it's spider injection convert to the updated style at the same time to save headaches later. Also be sure to check the ball joints with the suspension compressed, place a jack stand under the LCA near to the wheel as you can and put the vehicle down on it. Now pry the tire up and down while someone watches the lower and upper, push in and out on the top of the tire to check the upper, push side to side to check the tie rods.

True, they had to do some stuff to it but not as much as you'd think it would take to make it happen.
