Screenagers RANT

hardtofindinthefuture

So, we saw this at my school and it was 100% lies

So, im not going to go into the in-depth because i only remember so much, ill just go into the parts that really pissed me off

For one, How the fuck will playing GTA 5 turn me into a mass murderer isis rapist hitler tron5000

And how will using my phone lower my IQ??

These claims are so fucking retarded, i lost braincells watching it

and dumb people actually belive this

This is all false technology is only making our lives easier, these people just dont get it

IF you hate the idea of a computer go live on a fucking island

everything we do now is on computers, and teaching kids that tech will ruin there lives will only make things worse, when they grow up there going to be given a computer and expected to know what to do.

I just dont agree with this at all

Its 100% bullshit

Always makes me laugh and then get angry and sad that people believe stuff like this.

The BBC put out a news section today about "THE AVERAGE AGE FOR HACKERS IS 16!!!!11!!" They show pictures of aptitude updating Ubuntu and throw "DDOS" around...

As if 16 y/os are more of a threat to our internet security than the government smh.

Son, you are nowhere close to the only one with this complaint, it happened with every major technological innovation throughout history, and it will never stop. Sensationalist headlines, astonishing "facts," and attention grabbing "stats" will forever trump science and reason for it is only human nature to prefer the sensationalized version of reality. No amount of yelling or anger will re-wire someone's brain, nor will it even likely change their opinion.

I will say that some people do have enough disconnect from the world around them to be potential liabilities. Some do become unhealthy due to use of technology, so while their claims are baseless due to lack of sources (have no idea who these "screenagers" are), but this may be the society we will become.

Most of what you'll see from documentaries are psychological perspectives. I'd recommend finding a sociological study on teens and phone use.

Psych = Individual influenced by immediate surroundings and self (as a very basic interpretation), i.e. what thought process caused them to do that.

Socio = Society influencing an individual's behavior, i.e. how did society cause them to do that.

But we have to step back and observe from a socio- and psychological perspective. It'd be far too easy to label everyone an "addict". Pretty soon we'll all be under the social institution of medicine rather than accountable for our actions.

OP, I don't know what this screenagers thing is, but by your description and rant if seems to me that they're screaming "YES!" and you're screaming "NO!", none of which is very rational.

They may be they are jumping to conclusions, but alum you agree showing is that you don't like /believe those conclusions.

The best you can do is not prepare to resist, nor prepare to absorb. Just prepare to digest.

Otherwise it will be useless, and it seems you are watching, like it or not.

As said above, every advancement certain people who did not grow up with or choose not to learn can be, and often is promoted as detrimental. Telephones in the home will ruin face to face talking, limit creativity of letter writing correspondence; too much violence on TV, music makes you fornicate abnormally, did you see Elvis' hips?"

The only thing I do agree with is balance. Too many people use the internet as their only main source of interactivity, which is sad. Playing CSGO is with friends is cool, but there should be other types of fun tossed in too. When you find yourself at a social event with friends and you are texting more than interacting, that's a problem. When you game 40 hours a week and only get exercise walking to and from classes, or your car to the door of your job, house etc., that is an issue. And I'm not saying don't game/go online 40 hours a week, just make sure that other parts of your life aren't neglected for it.

People who are influenced by games to kill people had serious issues to begin with, and I promise anyone (I was a psyc major) who goes on a killing spree had something push them over the edge, and it was not a game. I'd posit the exact opposite, the games are a release to real life bullying, natural confusion of growing up; or for the older gamers, a release of stress from work, family, bills etc., especially for creative, intelligent, sensitive people, which most gamers tend to be, even if they act like egotistical jerks online on occasion.

There is enough youth in this world, how about a fountain of smart?

This is just old people who have no idea what video games and smartphones are, spreading BS about them because it's the "unknown" and humans by nature are afraid of that, especially as you grow older. Considering most people in politic today are 50 and up, this is the result. (Average was 57 in the house of congress and 61 in the senate in december 2016 for example)

I don't totally agree with you.  But on a similar topic, I tell my parents when books first came out they were considered unhealthy when they ask me to read books, and that in a few years people will consider computers healthy and VR bad/unhealthy.

Back then, cavemen parents would just tell readers to farm some dirt.

Honestly, that stuff they say, it does have a point to it.  It's just REALLY fucking exaggerated.  Because, nobody wants someone to be a terrorist from playing GTA V, even though the chances are extremely slim, old people don't want to risk it.  It's also because they don't understand technology, I bet they still get their porn from magazines.....  ;-) xD

I play video games and build PC's with my son (He just turned 7, we started this around 3), but we also built soccer nets/goals in the side yard. Put up a tire swing in the back yard, go to MMA classes, read books, draw, play pretty much every sport, whether we are good or bad at them (I can't play tennis for crap), hit the beach almost daily during the summer, go to waterparks as often as I can afford it etc. It's a balance.

I am thrilled they are teaching Windows and coding (They are actually starting in Kindergarten with BASIC now. Yep, good old fashioned BASIC). It does bug me that they switched math procedures, and I had to teach my son cursive as it is no longer taught in schools here. The more knowledge the better. The more balance and diversity the better, especially while growing up. And to any 13-17 year old who read this far, if your parents ask you how your day was, they aren't prying, they are being polite and showing they still care.Trust me, unless it's BAD, we don't want to know.

There is enough youth in this world, how about a fountain of smart?
