Office for Mac 2016 now supports Apple's latest gimmick

Dear Apple,

Have you ever heard of the gold ol' mouse and keyboard?

Was that too legacy for you?

Did you think adding a touch bar to remove the necessity of a touch screen was courageous?

Cos I certainly didn't.

Sincerely,

Al

Just a heads up, you accidentally posted your ridiculous "I'm upset because something exists that I don't use" letter to Apple. 9_9

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!

The guidelines are still too vague to handle stuff like this.

The only benefits of touch screen is for, the elderly or your parents, who is having a hard time trying to enlarge pictures or articles due to small text. So you can have more time to yourself, instead of being on the phone as free tech support.

ITT: Software gains additional support for glorified re-configurable OLED Function Keys.  People enraged because they think people should only use the macros and shortcuts that they personally approve of.

I love how Apple innovates a certain legacy feature and then everyone suddenly becomes a power user.

"omg wut abut my fysical f-keys?! i use dem all teh thyme!!"

Then claims to have a use case that .0002% of all laptop buyers would actually do. People love to find any reason to complain about Apple. Pathetic.

See, I dont really like using touch screens, any kind of them, am I enraged whenever a company provides support for a touch screen? No.

Get a grip. This just makes people actually use what they paid extra for.

Not really sure why there is a :( in the title. Im glad people are starting to support it.

My big issue with the bar is that it replaced the F keys without having the programs replace it yet, or allow user customization. I would love to have my IDEs different function keys bound to macros that i can have on a customize-able bar. (especially since every IDE keeps their functions on different keys and if you use more than 1 at a time you get confused)

More support is good people. Just because its apple being stupid and charging out the ass for it doesnt make it intrinsically bad.

If you say so. I don't particularly like the idea of having to look down to access a functionality that could have just as easily been bound to the function keys.

God damnit Apple. Really? Anyways, for my sanity I will pretend the Touch bar does not exist because it is the stupidest Apple invention ever.

^very bold statement. Not sure an informed one or just trolling.

I still don't understand why would you want a touch screen on MacOS? Do you even use a macbook on daily basis? Like strictly only MacOS? There's absolutely no significant reason to have touchscreen when the trackpad alone is so much superior in navigating in the os. The tracking, the click, the gesture controls.. This ain't a convertible. And have you tried the touch bar? Is so god damn useful to have when softwares have proper support for it. And Windows is still shit at touch screen fyi. Useable but not I would use everyday. iOS is fine but leave the MacOS out of the touchscreen mess.

Craig Federighi said in an interview that optimizing MacOS for Touch Screen would ruin the mouse/keyboard interface.

Is this a legitimate reason... more or less, but this is apple's stance on it

Could be, we all know how well windows 8 interface turned out, it was a nightmare!

Depends on the type of user. I'm sure that someone less computer savvy or just anyone not bothered to memorise shortcuts would like it. But then again there a load of potential here even for some advanced users.

Let's be honest, nobody in that category has any use for either of those methods. They'll just click on the menus or right click. People who use stuff like after effects are going to learn the hotkeys anyway.

You don't need to look down every time. After a while of using you will get used to it just like with phones where I can type without looking at my phone.

But yeah I kinda get your point. It's easier with physical keys.

But why do you need F keys? I mean the last time I used F keys (other than turning volume/brightness up and down on my laptop) is basically never...

I'd much rather have a physical "thing" for changing brightness and volume...
