Who is making these thumbnails now? Did the marketing side of Nick figure out photo shopped thumbnails bring in more people?

You should have at the very least also replace the TN screen with IPS (by looking at the LCD connector or using an LVDS to eDP adapter and swapping the panel with IPS).

 

might also worth doing a liquid metal (like Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut) upgrade.

Sure you guys at LMG are busy with CES coming up, but this really feels like a filler episode. Anyone who is already a fan of LTT already knows the benefits of an SSD over a HDD and knows how to install one too. And for those who don't know how to install an SSD or reinstall Windows, this video doesn't really show how to step by step. It just looks like Luke already upgraded the laptop with the OCZ drive a long time ago and gave to his parents to use and they just threw in a new HDD with the clean install of Windows 7 just to make the video rather than using laptop that was actually using an HDD and really needed the upgrade. Why else would Luke be putting an old OCZ drive back into his potato of a laptop?

well that thumbnail is blatantly wrong , it implies water-damage and how to fix that 

not alot of reviving done here , a more fitting title would have been "speed up your old laptop"

I actually am fine with the content of the video. I imagine a lot of less savvy people search on how to speed up their laptop and it would be lucrative to be a top search result for that. It's okay if not every single LTT upload is relevant for the subscriber base.

 

That being said, I am not a fan of the new direction for thumbnails and especially titles. Titles in particular are getting a lot less descriptive (see videos from ~2 months ago to see what I mean).

I'm surprised it lasted that long. Windows OEM build quality of that era was awful. I had many die from failed screen hinges and the plastic chassis disintegrating.

When I first saw the title and thumbnail of this video, I thought it is something similar to how Linus saved his old XPS 12......

Just wow. I know this is probably a filler because of the holiday, and I personally don't mind noob-oriented contents, I know they could be useful to someone.

But seriously, "revive" the laptop? It wasn't even dead it was just slow! And what's with the saw and mask and shit in the thumbnail?

I love LTT contents and I watched almost all of them (except videos about audio gears). They might not be the most professional contents in the world but sure are sincere and down to earth. But the content is too thin in this video to be one of them.

I think this could be fine if you put it in techquickie and name it appropriately like "Speed up you old laptop as fast as possible". 

Or you guys can elaborate it a bit, like swapping the screen to a 1080p one, replace the optical drive with another SSD in a caddy, and do a RAID 0. Now that could be very interesting and useful. Or just paint it pink! 

 

(edit: Switching hdd to ssd in a laptop, and do a RAID 0...Linus has done it 5 years ago with a MSI GX660R laptop. That was a very good video)

 

(edit 2: Found that Linus did a single hdd to ssd swap 6 years ago already.., with a Kingston SSD)

What the hell are you doing to those laptops? We don't really have that much problems with HDD laptops and the biggest benefit of SSD upgrade is the ability to carry it while it's turned on and computing. Such a long boot and app loading times are pretty strange.
Also, you have already made pretty similar video, HDD vs SSD, only it was more in-depth and the drawbacks of HDDs weren't so exaggerated (although admittedly, you have mentioned at the end, that 99% of the time, there will be no difference).

Hey LTT!

A video of 7 minutes, only showing somebody replacing a HDD with a SSD is not the quality content we expect - especially when the thumbnail and title are missleading. The video has nothing to do with water, and when I read the title I thought of something like installing a fresh Linux on it (and make it look like Windows for your parents) or building a home server/nas with the laptop and not simply putting a SSD it.

Don't take me wrong, I love your videos, but this one wasn't that good.

By the way, Luke, I think you need to change your wifi password (4:48)
